James Fredrick Zimmerschied

Funeral services for James Zimmerschied will be held 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 29, 2017 at the Harold Jarrard Park in Kaycee with graveside services to follow immediately. James F. Zimmerschied, 79, of Gillette, WY, formerly of Kaycee, WY, passed away June 22, 2017, after a brief battle with cancer. Jim was born on August 15, 1937 in Sundance, WY to Wilbur and Edna Zimmerschied. He grew up on Cabin Creek near Carlyle, WY. He attended grades 1-8 at lower Cabin Creek School and graduated from Moorcroft High School in 1955. Jim worked for Kendrick Cattle Company at the OW, E-U, Hanging Woman and the LX Bar Ranches from 1959-1969. In 1963 he married Sue Spear of Arvada while working for Kendricks. He moved his family to Kaycee in 1969 when he became Brand Inspector for the State of Wyoming. In 1972 he became Deputy Sheriff and later Sergeant for Southern Johnson County. He worked under 4 sheriffs until he retired in 1994. In 1974 Jim and Sue went into business with the Taylor family and opened the Cassidy Inn Motel and Powder River Supply. Jim was in the initial group of EMT's in 1972 and was also Deputy Coroner for 15 years. He was essential in starting up the local Search and Rescue team. Jim shod a lot of horses during his time in Kaycee, especially enjoying going to the mountain to shoe horses for the Basque herders. After his retirement from Johnson County, he went to work for Campbell County for 20 years. Jim was a huge part of the Kaycee Community for 25 years and never stopped calling it home. Jim was a Mason, member of the Kalif Shrine, Buckskin Horse patrol, Moose Lodge and American Legion. He loved his draft horses and wagons and especially loved giving rides to Kids without Dad's at Christmas. Jim said he hauled 1000's of kids in his wagon and was very proud of that. Jim is survived by his son, JimBob Zimmerschied (Lori) of Arvada, daughter D'Lynn (Buck) Cowdin of Wright, his companion of 16 years, Karen Duggan of Gillette, 2 granddaughters Sara and Ellee. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Jack and daughter in law Amy Love. The family requests that memorials be made in Jim's name to the Kalif Shrine in Sheridan, WY.
