Mass of Christian Burial for Ursula E. Kirkman will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday January 13, 2017 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church with Father Jason Marco officiating. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a vigil starting at 7:00p.m., Thursday January 12, 2017 at Walker Funeral Home. Ursula Kirkman, age76, passed away at her home in Gillette on Saturday January 7, 2017.Ursula Elise Kathe (Schmitt) Kirkman was born on September 14, 1940, to Johan and Anna Marie (Schinhofen) Schmitt in Trier, Germany. She attended school in Germany while working at the family Gas station and on their farm. After finishing school she held various jobs. She was working at the NCO Club on the Bitburg Air Force Base when she met her husband Thomas Rees Kirkman. They were married on August 21, 1964 in Spiecher, Germany. They welcomed 4 children Hannelore, Loretta, Angie, and Thomas Jr. while stationed in Germany. In 1969 they moved back to Spring Valley, Illinois to be closer to family. While living in Spring Valley they welcomed 2 more children to their family Anna and Lou Ann. In 1981 Thomas's job transferred the family to Gillette, Wyoming where she lived until the time of her death.Ursula enjoyed playing pinochle, camping, fishing, Bingo, Deadwood, Gambling, traveling, Tennis, watching Wheel of Fortune, collecting horses and frogs, taking walks, and spending time with her family (children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren) and close friends.Ursula is survived by her children, Hannelore (Curt) Olson of Broadus, MT, Loretta (Scott) Sorenson, Angie Kirkman, Thomas Reese Kirkman Jr., Lou Ann (Kelly) Sutherland all of Gillette, WY; siblings, Anita Deutsch, Karl Heinz (Alelgunde) Schmitt both of Saarbrucken, Germany, Hannelore (Rainer) Glaub of Im Schmeleswals, Germany; 16 Grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Rees Kirkman (April 24, 1994 ), daughter Anna Louise Kirkman (August 5, 1983), her parents, Johan and Anna Schmitt, and sister, Irmgard Schmitt (December 24, 2016).
