Memorial Service for Larry Stevens will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 8th 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church.Larry Owen Stevens, age 73, passed away at Campbell County Memorial Hospital on December 1, 2016. Larry was born in Cambridge, Nebraska on May 29, 1943. His family moved to Cheyenne, WY in 1974 where he was raised and graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1961.After briefly attending the University of Wyoming he enlisted in the United States Army in 1963 and served until 1966. His primary service was on Okinawa with the Amery Security Agency where he was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal. In 1967 he married Shirley Cady ( Bell) and immediately became the father of three step-children. IN 1970 the family was transferred to Casper, WY where he was employed by Wyoming Machinery Co. In 1977 the family moved to Gillette to accept employment with Carter Mining Co at Rawhide Mine. He worked for the company at both Rawhide and Cballo mines until 1994. At that time he and Shirley with the help of the children built and operated the Barefoot Garden Center until 2009 when they had to sell the business when Larry was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. He was given an autologous stem cell transplant on Shirley's birthday in 2010 and went into remission of the disease but which later evolved into myelodysplastic syndrome. Larry enjoyed camping, fishing, working in his yard, and watching with pride as granddaughter Desi Downey grew up, played hockey and excels academically. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Phyllis Gormly and brother Lanny Stevens.Larry is survived by his wife and his best friend, Shirley Stevens; half-brother, James ( Janice) Gormly of Gillette, Four children, Gary Cady of Sheridan, Shana Ross, Craig ( Kim) Cady of Gillette and Paulanne (Mike) Downey of Gillette along with five grandchildren. A memorial has been established to benefit St. Jude's Children Hospital.
