Mass of Christian Burial for Gaylord Pearson will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, December 1, 2016 at St. Mathew's Catholic Church in Gillette, WY. A gathering of friends and family will be held immediately following the service in the Parish Hall. We invite everyone to stay and share their memories of our beloved husband, father and grandfather. Gaylord Pearson, age 83, of Gillette, WY, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital. Gaylord, the son of Clarence and Audrey Pearson, was born on January 9, 1933 in Gillette, Wyoming. He was raised in Gillette and in 1951 graduated from Campbell County High School. During his high school years, he played golf, tennis and baseball. He was offered a scholarship to the University of Wyoming to play both tennis and golf but he ultimately chose golf. Gaylord played golf for the University of Wyoming for four years, graduating in 1955 with a Business Administration Degree. He had fond memories of his golf trips and experiences and loved to share them with his family and friends. Two weeks after his High School graduation, May 31, 1951, he married the love of his life, Mary Kindel. On November 2, 1959, their son, Robert Lee, was born. 65 years of marriage brought so many wonderful memories. They shared the love of fishing, golfing, gambling, playing cards, bowling, skiing, rooting for the Broncos, entertaining and spending time with their son and his family. Gaylord's favorite pastime was betting the horses. We are fortunate he was able to "participate" in Gillette from his easy chair. After graduation from the University of Wyoming, Gaylord and Mary came back to Gillette and ran Pearson Oil until 2006 when his son took over the business. He had many stories to tell about the oilfield and how much things have changed. He was proud that the business his father started in 1927 is still family owned and operated. In 1960, Gaylord built Camelanes and in 1965 he built the Sundance Bowling Alley. He stayed in the bowling business for seven years. In the 1970's, he received his pilot's license and ran the Blue Sky Aero Club for several years. Gaylord served on the Campbell County Health Care Foundation Board and the Campbell County Parks and Recreation Board. During his life, he was a member of the Gillette Elks, Lifetime member of the University of Wyoming Alumni Association, Campbell County Chamber of Commerce, St. Mathews Catholic Church and the Gillette Country Club. He also volunteered countless hours with the homeless in Las Vegas where he and Mary wintered for the past 20 years. He was proceeded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary, his son, Robert and wife, Rachelle, and 2 granddaughters, his pride and joy, Morgan and Ashlyn. The family requests that memorials be made in Gaylord's name to the Gaylord Pearson Memorial Scholarship Fund.
