Don (Sonny), was born November 2, 1938 in Oak Creek, Colorado to Joby Harlin Dunn and Pauline Charlotte Dunn. He was raised on a ranch in the mountains near Yampa, Colorado and that way of life never left his heart. He met and fell in love with Minnie Jo Griffin in high school where they were Prom King and Prom Queen. In January of 1955 they married and began a life long journey together. They had four beautiful daughters in their first five years of marriage, Jackie Jo DeWine, Jonni Kay Brown, Jerri Lea Betts and Jimmi Lu Snyder. His love of ranching naturally led to the girls to always have a menagerie of animals. Quails, ducks, guinea pigs, goats, rabbits, sheep, horses, bum calves and always dogs and cats. As a family they spent time in the outdoors hunting, fishing, arrow head and rock hunting.Early on to provide for his growing family he went to work in the oil fields and there he made his life long career. Between 1957 and 1968, the family made 12 moves as oil field companies were bought and sold until they finally established roots in Gillette. All four of the girls made their homes in Campbell County. Don's strong work ethic allowed him to be promoted thru the ranks. He started out on the rigs as a rig hand, ran roustabout crews, was a pumper and moved into oil field production and retired in 1995 as an Area Production Manager in Campbell County and surrounding fields. For a short time after retirement Don was a production consultant before turning his focus to working with Minnie in their love of raising Appaloosa and Quarter horses. They also enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and were avid bowlers for many years.Don is survived by his daughter Jackie DeWine, son-in-law Rex (Kathy) Brown, daughters, Jerri (John) Betts and Jimmi (Mick) Snyder, his sister Billie Jo (Stanton) Hiatt of Colorado, nine grandchildren, Jerami Jo (Anas) Benzine, Timothy Michael (Kerri) DeWine, Jennifer Jo Betts, Levi Paul (Toby) Dunn, Jessica Ireen (Lee) Boyd, Dustin Michael (Andrea) Snyder, Willy Adon (Carrie) Snyder, Rori Ann (Shane) Coates, Ami Lu Snyder and nineteen great-grandchildren, Devon, Connor, Andrew, Zane, Azia, Joby, Jayden, Aubry, Averi , Katie, Taylor, Preslie, Garrett, Kobyn, Gabe, Liam, Ethan, Ansel, Nory, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife Minnie, daughter Jonni Kay Brown, and grandson Joseph Donald Brown...and all because two people fell in love. The family request that memorials be made in Don's name to Crook County Long Term Care Facility. Memorials and condolences may be sent in care of Gillette Memorial Chapel 210 West 5th Street, Gillette, WY 82716. Condolences may also be expressed at www.gillettememorialchapel.com
