Memorial service to celebrate Bette Smith's life will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Gillette Memorial Chapel with Erik Bergquist officiating. Bette Faye Smith, age 74, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2016. Bette was born on August 12, 1942, to Lucille and Les Holcomb. She grew up in Gillette where she resided all her life. Bette attended nursing school at Montana State University. She was employed by Campbell County Hospital for over 30 years. During that time, she held many titles. When she retired in 2014, she was the nurse manager in the critical care unit. Bette was respected and admired by all in her field. She was dedicated to her profession and was constantly striving to improve patient care, as well as mentoring and developing new nurses in her field.In 1962, Bette married the love of her life, George Albert Smith of Sheridan, Wyo. Together, they had one son, Gregory Rowe Smith. Bette was also the loving mother to George's two girls, Debi and Cindy. Over the years, Bette loved traveling to visit Greg. She loved the shopping, dining, and time spent with Greg. She never made a trip without picking up a bottle of her favorite perfume, Chanel No. 5. Her hobbies included a love of genealogy, gardening, reading, and weekend trips to Deadwood, SD, with George. Bette was also known for her love of creating Christmas decorations and showing off her trees each year at her annual Christmas party she hosted for her nurse family. Bette is survived by her husband George, of 54 years; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Angela Smith, Cindy and Bruce Parker, Debi and Ted Howitt; grandchildren Carson and Sloane Smith, Taylor Parker, Stephanie Probandt, Ryan Stockman, and Cara Stockman-Danvolgyi, and several great and great-grandchildren. Bette was preceded in death by her parents, Les and Lucille Holcomb, and brother Fred Holcomb.In lieu of flowers, please give to the charity of your choice.
