Charles Donald Sumner, 80, of Gillette, Wyoming, passed away peacefully with his children by his side on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital. He was born May 8, 1936 in Brunswick, Georgia to Clifford and Lucile Sumner.Don served 20 years in the Air Force as an electronic technician and married Shelby Murray of Centralia, Illinois on May 19, 1956. During Don's military career, he and Shelby, along with their four children, traveled and lived throughout the states and overseas. In 1976 Don and his family settled in Gillette where he worked for AMAX Coal Company. After retiring from AMAX, Don was an electrical contractor and performed electrical inspections for several local mining contractors. In 1996, Don and Shelby moved Ocala, Florida to enjoy their golden years. Don was an avid golfer and played several days a week while living in the sunshine state. Above all, Don enjoyed spending time with his family. He and Shelby celebrated Christmas and 4th of July holidays in Gillette with their children. After Shelby's passing in 2015, Don moved back to Gillette to be near his family.Don is survived by his children, Chuck (Judy) Sumner, Joni (Kurt) Siebenaler, and Jeanne (David) Kidd, all of Gillette, and Jim Sumner of Lincoln, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason) Jones of Gillette, Lindsey Pherson of Dallas, Texas, Toni (Ryan) Friedly, Rachel Pherson, and Justin Sumner of Gillette, Alyssa (Jeff) Jaeger of Casper, and Tyler Rollings of Colorado Springs , Colorado; six great-grandchildren, Maddox Kruse, Jayden Friedly, Zoey Friedly, Vivienne Friedly, Alyvia Jones, and Ryker Jones , all of Gillette; sisters Inez Littleton and Ronni Hickox of Brunswick; and special in-laws Jim and Vickie Murray of Salt Lake City, Utah and Sharon Miller of Centralia, Illinois.He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and sisters Margaret Romine and Frances Herrin.A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
