Funeral services for Raymond Louis Cates will be Monday, October 3rd at Family Life Church at 11:00, visitation will be Sunday, October 2 at Gillette Memorial Chapel from 1:00-5:00. Raymond was born on June 22, 1938, to James and Willa Mae (Bell) Cates, and passed away on September 26, 2016. He was born and raised in Gillette, WY. He served in the US Navy from 1956-1960. Raymond married his first love, Brenda Kay Buchholz, on February 5, 1960, in San Diego, CA. Together they raised 5 children: Tina, Chance, Case, Banner, and Clay. In 1980, Raymond and family returned to Wyoming where he began working with his father and brother at Cates Electric. After the death of his father and brother, Raymond took over the family business until his retirement in 2014. In December of 1999, he lost his first love of 39 years. After a long struggle with his loss, he was reunited with an old friend and was lucky enough to find love twice. On July 4, 2007, he married Kathleen (Berg) Hill. Together they ran Cates Electric, working side by side. Raymond enjoyed golfing, arrowhead hunting, traveling, gardening, and watching Wyoming Cowboys and Gillette Camels sports. He was a #1 supporter of his children throughout their lives, including watching his daughter sing and his sons playing softball. He was always a jokester and welcomed everyone to the family in that fashion. He was very patriotic and proud to have served in the US Navy. Raymond Cates is preceded in death by his first wife, Brenda Cates, one angel baby, parents James and Willa Cates, brothers Jimmy, Buddy, and Timmy. He is survived by his wife, Kathie Cates; daughter Tina Theunissen (husband Tom), son Chance (wife Jessica), son Case (wife Hyon Ju), son Banner (wife Jennifer), and son Clay (wife Shawna); step-children Frank Hill, Kori Kjorstad (husband Marty), and Bobbi Hill; sister Nancy Slattery (husband Jim), sister Mary Ann, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family asks that you please wear Wyoming Cowboys, Gillette Camels, or Denver Broncos attire to support his love of these teams.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Raymond's name.
