Doris passed away Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Campbell County Hospice surrounded by her family. Doris was born January 17, 1920 in Dekalb County Missouri to Herbert and Fannie (Johnson) McClure. She was a loving mother and devoted rancher's wife. Her faith and making sure her husband, children, and grandchildren were cared for was the most important things to her. Doris and her parents moved to Wyoming from Missouri in 1928 in a Model-T Ford with their family pets; a bird in a cage and a little dog Mike. She attended Spring Grove School in Missouri, and various southern Campbell County grade schools where her mother taught. She went to Campbell County High School for four years; two of which were the Normal Training Program. Upon graduating, she taught at the Willard and Pine Tree schools. It was through her friendship with Edith Broyles that she met the love of her life, Clarke Mills. He vowed from the first day he met her she would be his wife! They married on April 4, 1942 and spent their first summer in a sheep wagon herding sheep on the family ranch south of Gillette. She loved cooking and hosting big meals. She was always prepared for anyone extra that Clarke would bring home. Doris always had a big garden and beautiful flower beds. She was known for her "cow in the garden" scream. She also enjoyed sewing and at the age of 96 embroidered her last pair of pillowcases. Each day she completed a crossword puzzle and was ready to play Scrabble anytime. A favorite past time was finding the hidden object in, the Taste of Home magazine with her daughter Coralie. She was a member of the 3-H ladies club and was an active 4-H leader. For several summers, she hosted Vacation Bible School at the ranch. Doris and Clarke were cofounders and members of the Prairieview Assembly of God Church in Wright. She is survived by 6 children, Coralie Ruth (Gerald) Clary, Rapid City, SD, Larry Clarke (Phyllis), Billy Herbert (Vicki), Jody Glen (Coretta), Tommy Michael (Bonnie) all of Gillette, and Betty Irene (Hal) Cox of West, TX; 16 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren and one due in January; 4 great-great grandchildren . She was preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Fannie McClure, her husband Clarke K. Mills. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to benefit Campbell County Memorial Hospital Hospice. Donations may be sent in care of Gillette Memorial Chapel, 210 W. 5th St., Gillette, WY 82716. Condolences may also be expressed at www.gillettememorialchapel.com
