Funeral service for Wanda Whitney will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 22, 2016 at Family Life Church in Gillette, WY with Pastor Gordon Harper officiating; burial to follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will take place 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Gillette Memorial Chapel. Wanda Kay Whitney, 70 of Gillette WY died Tuesday evening, August 16, 2016. Wanda Kay (Brodkorb) Whitney was born on May 15, 1946 in Mitchell, SD to George and Virginia (Fitzgerald) Brodkorb. In her early childhood her family farmed near Kimball, SD for a few years and then Wessington Springs, SD. She graduated from Wessington Springs in 1964.She married Connie Whitney October 12, 1969. Connie and Wanda moved around South Dakota for several years following Connie's work and raising their two children Marlene and Dean. They moved to Gillette in 1976 and left the following year for a short time before returning to Gillette. Wanda work for the Independent Newspaper in Wessington Springs for a short time following graduation, before moving to Mitchell, SD to work for Northwestern Bell in customer service until marrying Connie. She was then a homemaker until her children were both in school full time. She went to work for Campbell County School District serving in multiple administrative assistant roles at Twin Spruce Junior High. She was a "mom" to many junior high students over the course of 32 years.Wanda enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping and watching her grandsons play sports.She is survived by her husband, Marlene (Casey) Bennett, Mitchell, SD and Dean Whitney, Gillette, WY, grandsons Maxwell and Lukas Bennett and Vincent Whitney. Sisters Rose(Larry) Carson, Linda (Robert) Kolousek, Deana Brodkorb/Barry Bailey; sister-in-laws Vicki Brodkorb, Gracie (Ed) Stiefvater, Harriett (Jim) Ginsbach, Marilyn Walling; brother-in-laws Willard (Curley)Schoenfelder, Bob Whitney and Jerry Worley. Many nieces, nephews and cousins.She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws Harrold and Margaret Whitney, brother Mark Brodkorb, sister-in-laws Josie Schoenfelder, Betty Worley; brother-in-laws Ronald Whitney and Ken Walling.
