Laurence 'Larry' Joseph Roy

Mass of Christian Burial for Laurence J. "Larry" Roy will be at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at St. Matthews Catholic Church with Father Jason officiating. Burial will take place at 1:30p.m., Tuesday, August 9, 2016 in Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis South Dakota. Laurence "Larry" Roy, age 71 of Gillette, WY passed away at Close to Home Hospice on August 3, 2016.Laurence "Larry" Joseph Roy was born September 4, 1944 in Los Angeles, CA to Fabien and Pirth Roy. He attended Mount Carmel High School in Los Angeles and served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1971. He married Jenny Theresa Hallmen in 1963 in Key west, FL where their son John Thomas was born.Larry's main profession was as a meat cutter, but when an illness prevented him from working in freezers he took other jobs, including production controller and traffic manager for an international company. He spent some years in Montana but returned to Southern California in 1989 where he became a long time maintenance staff worker at Bishop Amat High School in La Puente, CA. He was beloved among the students whose sports programs he supported every day. Larry followed many professional football careers of the alumni with interest and pride. He became a member of St. Louis of France Parish.During Easter week 2009 Larry became reunited with his son John from whom he had been separated. Since his retirement in 2011, he has lived with his family, in Wyoming.Larry is survived by his son, John Urquidez; Daughter in Law, Beatrix Urquidez, grandchildren, Marc, Brian and Analena; one great grandson, Caleb; brothers, Alfred Roy, Francis Roy, Stephen Roy, and Timothy Roy all of CA, Felix Roy of PA; 5 sisters, Callista Roy of Boston, MA, Georgiann Erhardt and Annette Roy- Feezko both of WA, Mary Avila, and Roberta Roy Moralez of CA and dozens of adoring nieces and nephews.Memorials and Condolences may be sent to the family in care of Walker Funeral Home, 410 Medical Arts Court, Gillette, WY 82716.
