"Bill" Fitch Jr. peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on August 4, 2016 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on March 15, 1948 to Bill and Helen Fitch of Gillette, Wyoming. He was raised on the family ranch on Northern Campbell County with younger brothers; Mark and John. After graduating from Campbell County High School in 1966 he enlisted in the United States Army. He served in the 101st Airborne Division 426th Supply and Service Battalion in Vietnam. He received many distinguished honors including the Bronze Star for "heroic or meritorious service in combat." Upon his return in 1969 he met Jane, the woman who would become the love of his life for the next 46 years. They were married November 28, 1970 and promptly moved to family ranch to begin their life together. They welcomed their first child Billie Jo on June 12, 1972. This was followed by their son Chuck on October 4, 1975. During his time on the ranch he pursued several interests including rock climbing, stock car racing, and flying. In 1987 the family moved to town so the children could pursue various activities. He began working at Eagle Butte mine until he "retired" in 2007. Not one to sit idle, he worked at Quality Ag Construction until 2012. It was during this time that he found his passion for trap shooting. His talent took him around the country, and allowed him to meet an incredible group of friends. As a resident of Campbell County he served on the Campbell County Fire Board, Gillette Gun Club, Vietnam Veterans Association, American Legion, and was a class officer of the Class of 1966. He and his son helped to build the current American Legion Baseball Stadium. He was a lifelong member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife Jane; his children: Billie (Kent) Wilkerson and Chuck (Brandy) Fitch; his grandchildren: Laini Wilkerson, Joshua Fitch, and Davis Wilkerson; his brothers: Mark Fitch and John (Galee) Fitch; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and countless friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Bill and Helen, his grandparents, his Father and Mother-in-law, and several lifelong friends.
