Funeral Service for Dorothy J. Schell will be held at 11:00 am Thursday July 21, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Jared Tucher officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.Dorothy June Schell, 85, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at her home in Gillette. She was born on June 29, 1931 in Ewing, NE to George and Esther Ruroede. She was the third of six children raised on a farm near Ewing. At age 17 she left home to teach at a country school. In 1955 she met and married Leonard Schell in Kimball, NE where they were both working at the time. Following the birth of their son the young family moved to Alabama where Leonard was in the Army. After Leonard's time in the Army they moved back to Kimball. They lived for a short time in Whitewood, SD before moving to Gillette in 1960 where they raised their family. Dorothy stayed busy raising her six children and was involved in her church, girl scouts and a homemaker's club. She started selling Avon in the early 1980's and made Presidents Club many years. As her children got older she enjoyed traveling with her husband to visit relatives and attended The World's Fair in 1982 in Knoxville, TN. After losing her husband in 1990 she kept herself busy traveling to visit children and grandchildren, working as a senior companion, attending church services and bible studies, visiting with friends and going to lunches at the Senior Center. Dorothy was loved by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her son Richard (Becky) Schell of Lakewood, CO; daughters, Carol Mackey of Arvada CO, Pam (Gary) Braselton of Phoenix AZ, Patty (Kevin) Doerr; of Elko NV, Caroline Martineau of Gillette WY and Nancy (Galen) Saxton of Salt Lake City UT; grandchildren, Alex Schell VanOtterloo, Jeff Braselton, Christopher Doerr, Stephanie Hawes, Charlie Martineau, Jake Doerr, John Mackey, Nicole Wade, Kate Schell, Kevee Doerr, William Schlicht and Andrew Saxton; great-grandchildren Trent, Taryn, Brodie, Jaelyn, Jaxon, Dax, and her sisters, Arlene Engler and Evelyn Pedan. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Schell, her parents George and Esther Ruroede, her brother Gerald Ruroede, her sisters Ardeth Meyer and Norma McKeever and her grandson Shane Braselton. A memorial has been established to benefit the Senior Center in Gillette.
