Lifelong Campbell County rancher Leslie Alwyn Burr "Les" 91, of Rozet, Wyoming passed away peacefully in Gillette on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at his home surrounded by his closest family. Les was born on October 14, 1924 in the Rozet post office to Edward and Marquerite (Lowery) Burr. He went to Rozet School through the 8th grade, quitting early working and helping support the family. He enjoyed working hard and playing even harder. He enjoyed all sorts of outdoor activities with his family, especially hunting elk, deer, moose, sheep, and antelope. They made yearly trips with his horses to the mountains to fish. His favorite activity was to follow his Walker hounds while hunting mountain lion, bear, bobcats and raccoon. He hunted with his dogs in several states, making some life long friendships. He won many trophies over the years with his hounds. During all this hunting, he built reservoirs with a team, and worked on Keeline Ranch, Shipwheel Ranch, and Nisselius Ranch. He ran his own ranch and also had his own haying business. He was a self taught mechanic, working on a variety of equipment from air planes to tug boats. He worked for the State of Wyoming, Dickies Chevrolet, and owned Les & Del's Auto Repair. He was a volunteer fireman and operated a tow truck. He volunteered to help the Girl Scouts make money to go to the Worlds Fair. He was an FFA Honorary State Farmer. He was a great prankster, loving to have a good laugh with anyone. He never met a stranger. On December 19, 1945 he married Arthena Herbage in California. To this union three girls were born, Sandra Jeanne McConnell (daughter Mandy) of Nevada, Sharon Diane Wilson (son Jeff and daughter Amy) of California, and Debra Leslie Gleason (daughter Heather) of Hawaii. They later divorced. On August 30, 1958 he married Virginia Schlattman in Riverton, Wyoming. To this union two girls were born, Leslie L. Petersen (Melvin, son Tyler) of Gillette, Wyoming and Vicky K. Black (Carl, daughter Jamie and son Jody) of Rozet, Wyoming. There will be a void in the lives of these two families. Just because he is gone, he will never be forgotten. We love you Dad! He was preceded in death by his parents; Edward and Marguerite, wife; Virginia, sisters; Mildred Mooney, Evelyn Fisher, brothers; Charles, Walter, and Curtis, Grandson, Evan Gleason. He is survived by his brother Kenny Burr of Moorcroft, Wyoming, and extended family. Special thanks to his care givers; Jordan Evans, Wendy Johnson and "Little Bit".
