Memorial service for Sherman Leroy Taylor will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 27, 2016 at Journey Church with Pastor Erin Youngs officiating. Burial to take place prior to services at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD a precession of family and friends to the cemetery will be leaving from Journey Church at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 27, 2016.Sherman Taylor, a loving father, grandfather, and friend too many, died unexpectedly on May 20, 2016 at the age of 62 while riding home from the Fallen Police Officer ride. Sherman is survived by his two sons, Sean and Christopher Taylor; his four grandchildren, Laila, Kylie, Jason, and Zoey. Sherman was born in Washington, DC on June 2, 1953 to John and Pearl Taylor. He joined the United States Air Force in 1974 and was assigned to various locations including: Germany, California, South Dakota, and Wyoming. After 20 years of honorable service, he joined the Police Department in Gillette, Wyoming in 1995. He served as a devoted peace officer in the community for 20 years, and impacted the lives of innumerable youth as a dedicated D.A.R.E. officer. Sherman was a devoted community servant and enjoyed helping others in need. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle as often as possible, fishing, and traveling to his many favorite places in the country such as Sturgis, SD and Tucson, AZ.
