Memorial services will be held for Barbara Allyn Jeffres 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 21, 2016 in Moorcroft, at the First Presbyterian Church in Moorcroft. Barbara passed away on May 9, 2016 at the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver. Barbara was born to Allen and Eva Hoshaw on January 16, 1937 in the Pedro Mountains outside Casper, Wyoming and spent her childhood exploring the hills with her siblings. The family later moved to Upton, Wyoming, where Barbara graduated from high school in 1954. She moved to Moorcroft, WY in 1964 with her husband, James Lyle Jeffres, and two children Charlene and Mike. Barbara and Lyle were happily married until 1993, when Lyle passed away from cancer. She later married Virgil Hilkemeier in 1999, becoming a stepmom to his five children and step grandmother to his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a second wonderful marriage until Virgil's death in 2015. Barbara was active in state and local politics, enjoyed gardening, and was an avid bowler. During the 1990's early, 2000's, she served as mayor of Moorcroft for 4 years and prior to that was a city councilwoman for 8 years. She was very active in the Wyoming Association of Municipalities, during her time in city government. It is certain she is sitting with family members that preceded giving them an earful about the current presidential election. She also operated an insurance agency for several years in the Moorcroft area. Barbara is survived by her brother, Marvin Hoshaw, of Minneapolis MN and sister, Margaret Lynch, of Moorcroft, WY; her two children and daughter-in-law, Charlene Jeffres of Sterling, VA, and Mike and Susan Jeffres of Evergreen, CO; her two grandsons, Sean and Tyler Jeffres also of Evergreen, CO; five step children,, Rhonda Smith of Moorcroft, WY; Dan of Belgrade, MT; Donna Mader of Biddle, MT; Connie Christianson of Moorcroft, WY; Perry of Lake Preston, SD; , numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, and two brothers Gary and Walter Hoshaw. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be sent to American Cancer Society or Moorcroft Senior Center.
