Dorothy Juanita (Beaman) Manous, age 95, passed away at Close to Home Hospice on Tuesday, April 6, 2016. Dorothy was born January 9, 1921 to John F. Beaman and Fern L. (Vickers) Beaman in a home with a midwife in Gillette, WY. Dorothy grew up in Recluse, WY on the family homestead then later moved to Gillette. She was raised learning to love Jesus in the Church of Christ. The family shared a one room home dug into the side of a hill with dirt flooring, along with a whittled wagon that her mother lovingly carved out of wood and dolls carefully sewn. Fruit and nuts were gifts at holidays and children would make figures out of the clay they found. The children were loved and grew up having imagination as their guide. When she was 10 years old the family came to Gillette in the bed of a truck for the Wedding of Orville and Nell (Vickers) Sherard. This was the first time she had seen a banana. She ate so many that she got sick. Dorothy attended Campbell County Schools and graduated from Campbell County High School in 1938. Dorothy later received her teaching certificate and nurse assistant certificate. On a blind date she met the love of her life Cecil S. Manous of Atoka, OK. while he was in the Civilian Conservation Corp. The couple wed in Gillette, WY on September 2, 1939. Their honey moon was celebrated in Upton, WY over a cup of coffee and after they returned to make Gillette their home. The couple welcomed their first daughter D. Ruth Manous the following spring. Glenda J. Manous was the second daughter and Gilbert K. Manous and Gordon C. Manous (twins) were the first sons born to the family. Unfortunately the twins only lived eight days before they passed away. The next daughter born was S. Fern Manous and then Earl D. Manous was born to complete the family. Cecil worked for the CB &Q Railroad constructing the tracks for the rail road through the area. As a track foeman the family moved to many places in North Eastern Wyoming and Crowe Agency in Montana. When Cecil was promoted to foreman they lived in the section house in Oriva, WY. Many wonderful memories were made while the family lived in the small community. She took pride in making her children's clothes and quilting. The family enjoyed picnics at the reservoir to fish or catch frogs. She was skilled in making cottage cheese, ice cream, butter and homemade meals for her family. She believed in spare the rod, spoil the child. The family moved again this time to Gillette after Cecil was promoted. Shortly after the family moved into town she was widowed by a car accident that nearly took her life. Her son Earl acquired the role in helping his mother make ends meet as she had just started her job at Campbell County Memorial Hospital as a nursing assistant, where she cared for the people of Gillette for 25 before an injury forced her to retire. Dorothy loved caring for her grandchildren whenever she could. She took the role of helping raise her granddaughter Starla when her daughter Fern could not raise her child on her own. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, singing, sewing, and crocheting. Her love was always Jesus and was a devout member of The Church of God of Prophecy. She was very active in many duties in the church and she put God and her church first in all she would do.
