Memorial service for Rita Grohs will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 2, 2016 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor A. J. Bush officiating. Burial has taken place at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette, Wyoming. Rita J. Grohs, 83, died Monday, December 7, 2015 at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, WY. She was born near Mitchell, SD on July 8, 1932 to Leonard and Esther Stevens. She attended South Dakota State Teacher's College and taught at The School for the Deaf in Sioux Falls, SD. She worked as a medical assistant in Sioux Falls and then for Dr. H. Lewis, an Orthopedic Surgeon in Mitchell, SD. While working for Dr. Lewis, she met Lyle. They were married on September 10, 1960. She worked as church secretary for Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell and The First United Methodist Church in Douglas, WY. The family moved to Wyoming in 1976. They lived in Douglas before moving to Gillette in 1981. Rita and Lyle owned a craft business after Lyle retired from coal mining. Rita moved to Casper after Lyle's death in 2014. She resided at Mountain Plaza Assisted Living and made many good friends in her short stay there. Rita always enjoyed keeping active with crafts, volunteer work, baking, walking, visiting with friends and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sister; Zella Weidenbach of Parkston, SD, her children; Theresa (Robert) Schulz of Casper, WY, Michelle (Joseph) Whitney of Newcastle, WY and Wayne (Veronica) Grohs of Gillette, WY, along with 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
