Don Marquiss

Memorial service for Don Marquiss will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Gillette Memorial Chapel with Daryl Lynde officiating. Inurnment to follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Don Marquiss age 90, went to be with the Lord on September 9, 2015 in Bozeman, Montana, where he lived after his wife Bonnie, passed away in 2013. He was born in Gillette, Wyoming on November 24, 1924 to Roy B. (Ted) and Olive Spencer Marquiss. He grew up on the Little Buffalo Ranch south of Gillette, attended public schools of Campbell County and graduated from Gillette High School. He was raised in the ranching and livestock business and continued to ranch throughout most of his life. On June 13, 1945, he married Bonnie Jean Lynde and to that union were born six children; Douglas T. (Ginger) Marquiss, Teresa J. (Lenard) Seeley, Robert B. (Pam) Marquiss, Donelle J. Marquiss, Rocky A. (Lisa) Marquiss, David S. Marquiss. They raised their family on the Marquiss Columbia Ranch south of Gillette.Don was very active in the Columbia Sheep Breeders Association and served in various positions on many local boards. He served on the Campbell County High School board, the Campbell County Unified School Board, Campbell County Fair Board, the Cemetery Board, past president and a director of the Columbia Sheep Breeders Association, a member of the Executive Committee of Wyoming Wool Growers Association, a member of the Elks Lodge, Sheridan, Wyoming. After leaving the ranching business he and Bonnie lived in Buffalo, Wyoming for a while and then moved to Dayton, Wyoming where he was active in the Dayton Community Church. He loved helping people and had a very generous heart. He enjoyed his family, ranching, horses, flying and his later hobbies were sculpting in clay and doing bronze artwork. He also enjoyed going to the diner in Dayton and visiting with friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents, brother; Quentin, wife; Bonnie, son; David, and two grandchildren. He is survived by his sister; Rachel Fulkerson, five children, thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Pilots for Christ-WY, PO Box 94, Gillette, WY 82717.
