September 18, 1941 — August 17, 2015

Memorial Services for Rodger Hodges will be held at 3:00p.m., Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Roadway Alliance Church. There will be a private burial at a later date. Rodger Hodges, age 73, of Gillette, Wyoming, passed away on August 17, 2015, after a short illness. Rodger was born on September 18, 1941, to Shirley and Margaret Hodges in Sioux Falls, SD. He attended schools in the Watertown and Waverly, SD, areas, and graduated from Waverly High School in 1960. He married the love of his life, Lois Heyn, on November 10, 1962. This blessed marriage produced three children, Cindy, Loren, and Pam. Rodger and Lois' pride and joy were their three children, and then their grandchildren. Rodger's family meant everything to him. He was constantly present for all of them, whatever the need may have been. Lois passed away in 2008, after 46 years of marriage, and Rodger missed her dearly. He was employed by the South Dakota State Highway Department, and then for the Sioux Falls City Parks Department in Sioux Falls, SD, for over 20 years. He then moved to Gillette, WY, in 1982, to be near his children and was employed by the Campbell County Parks Department as a groundskeeper, and then went on to driving truck. He never officially retired because he continued to work up until his passing. Rodger truly enjoyed the company of others, and talking for hours. He never knew a stranger. His devout companion was his dog, Sweetie. Rodger was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed being outdoors anywhere with his family and friends. He loved hunting, fishing, and anything to do with nature. One of Rodger's true passions was country and western music and he enjoyed going to any country and western concert. He was a genuine cowboy at heart, and collected many western memorabilia. Rodger enjoyed attending auctions and antiquing. Rodger is survived by his son, Loren Hodges, and two daughters, Pam Hodges-Altenberg, and Cindy (Cliff) Erikson, all of Gillette, Wyoming, 10 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Barbara Jean Hodges Otten, Tea, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers and two sisters. Rodger's family and friends will deeply miss him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial to go towards Rodger's service.
