Funeral service for Carl K. Kretschman will be at 10:am Monday, July 13, 2015 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Gillette, Wyoming with Rev. Susan Reichenberg of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Gillette- Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00pm-7:00pm Sunday, July 12, 2015 at Walker Funeral Home. Carl Kenneth Kretschman was born to August and Lydia (Sullenger) Kretschman, January 5, 1939 on the south side of a sagebrush during a blizzard in Arvada, Wyoming. He was raised on antelope hair and oatmeal. Anyone that knows Carl has heard that line. Carl passed away at his home on July 8, 2015. Carl attended rural grade schools but when he was brought into town for high school "he went in the front door and out the back" and beat his parents back home to Arvada. He enlisted in the U.S. National Guard with his brothers Herb, Robert, and Johnny, but was discharged after six months due to asthma. Carl and his brothers started a business called Cowboys For Hire. They worked several different ranches in Wyoming, South Dakota, and Montana. He was an avid hunter who hunted and guided in Alaska, Canada, Yukon, and Yellowstone, the Tetons. On June 22, 1978 Carl married Ardienna Curtis Oliver and moved to the Oliver Ranch where he resided for thirty-seven years. On the day of his marriage he became a husband, father, father-in-law, and a grandfather. Operated the Oliver/Kretschman Ranch on Horse Creek with his wife, plus had the Horse Creek Pheasant Farm, was also involved with Ducks Unlimited, Friends of Pheasants and the NRA. Carl is survived by brothers: Herb (Nancy) Kretschman of Sheridan, WY; Johnny Kretschman of Arvada, WY; sister: Ruby Ann Tiezen of Spearfish, SD; step-children: Patty Carver, Wanda (Randy) Materi, Jim (Val) Oliver, Michele (Kevin) Craig, Kelly (Jeremy) Gaskins, all of Gillette, WY, and Janice (Calvin) Cook of Newcastle, WY; Jackie (Joe) Kalkhoff of Manning, Iowa; as well as by 35 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ardienna, his brother Robert and Robert's twin and sister Helen, step-daughter Ruth Rech, granddaughter Leslie Penoff, and great-granddaughter Marley Sheldon.
