Memorial Service for Joseph M. Hays will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church with Father Cliff Jacobson officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 42 Honor Guard.Joseph Michael Hays, 66, had a cardiac arrest and died on June 30, 2015. Joe was born on April 29, 1949 to Robert H. K. and Betty J. Hays in Gillette. He graduated from Campbell County High School in 1967. The following year, he enlisted in the United States Army National Guard, completed Boot Camp at Ft. Campbell, KY and transferred to the Wyoming National Guard. He then married his high school sweetheart, Diana Carson in 1969. Their daughter, Amanda Hays, was born in 1978.Joe held positions in management and sales throughout his lifetime. In 2014, he retired from CCSD Bus Barn, where he was a driver.Joe leaves behind a legacy of compassion, kindness, humor and love. He put others first and would give you the shirt off his back. He always found ways to make someone's day brighter, from going in early to warm up buses or picking up the tab at dinner to offering a smile. Nearly everyone he met became a friend and close friends were considered family. His laughter and love will be greatly missed.Joe was many things to many people Son, brother, uncle, nephew, godfather, husband, Daddy, friend, lead singer in a band called the Avengers, Staff Sergeant, hunter/guide, fisherman, bowler, bingo caller extraordinaire, music lover and concert goer. Joe is survived by his loving daughter, Amanda Hays of Gillette, siblings: Patsy (Doug) Compton, Mary Hughes, James (Barbie) Hays, Bobby (Darla) Hays, Christy (Bob) Nelson, Ron (MaryAnne) Hays, Greg (Kathy) Hays, and Wendy (Dylan) Many, uncle Bill (Verna) Hays, several cousins, nieces, and nephews.Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Diana Hays, his mother Betty Wells, his father Bob Hays, and several other relatives.A memorial has been established in Joseph's name.
