Funeral Services for Irven Swanson will be held at 11:00a.m., Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Gillette Memorial Chapel, Pastor Bill Morel officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at Gillette Memorial Chapel. Internment at Mount Pisgah Cemetery following services. Irven Francis Swanson age 91, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 13, 2015. Irven was born on August 12, 1923 on a homestead in Achilles, Kansas. He grew up on his grandparents' farm in Kansas. While growing up he enjoyed playing sports; including baseball and wrestling. He took 2nd place at State Wrestling in Kansas when he was a freshman in high school. While attending school in Kansas he also worked in a clothing store and as a soda jerk at a local drug store. He enjoyed carpentry at a young age. Irven's family moved to Worland, WY while he was in high school, then he spent a short period of time in California with his aunt and uncle. He returned his senior year to Worland and graduated from Worland High School. During the summer he would work with his Uncle Jim at the Pitchfork Ranch outside of Meeteetse, WY and he enjoyed it very much. Irven met Doris Dinger while working on his parents' farm. The couple married on October 27, 1945 in Thermopolis, WY. After working on various farms, the couple settled in Gillette, WY in 1958 where they raised their daughter and two sons. He worked as a carpenter for local builders including; Kirk and Alton Colter and Terry Gladson until he retired at the age of 65. Irven also managed the Rolling Hills Trailer Court until he was 88. Doris and Irven were married 63 years at the time of her passing. He continued to reside in their home until 2014, when he moved to Pioneer Manor. He is survived by his brother; Harlan Swanson, son; Rick Swanson, daughter; Paulette Sjolin, 10 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife; Doris, son; Robert Swanson, parents; Clarence and Hester Swanson, and brothers; Harold, Wilbur and Wayne Swanson. The family asks that donations be made to the local Boys and Girls Club in Irven's name.
