Memorial services for Samuel (Sam) Leroy Snell, 84, of Rozet will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday May 28, 2015 at Gillette Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Mt. Pisgah. Samuel (Sam) Leroy Snell, 84, passed away at Pioneer Manor on Friday, May 22, 2015. He was born on March 28th, 1931 to his parents George and Johanna Snell in Rapid City, South Dakota. From 1951 to 1955 he was in the United States Marine Corps where he served at the Philippine Islands and Pearl Harbor (Hawaii). He ended his service as a Corporal MP. After his time in the Marines, he was a bartender in Sundance, Wyoming where he met the love of his life, Irene Louise Fredrickson. They were soon to be married on June 3, 1956 in Sundance, Wyoming. Two years later they had their first child, a daughter they named Debbie. A year after Debbie, their son Ivan was born. They had a third child on February 23rd 1973, a boy named Travis Leroy Snell. The Snell's moved to Kearny Lake, Wyoming in 1961 where Sam worked in the logging industry. They then moved Gillette, Wyoming where Sam pulled trailers. After his time pulling trailers, Sam found a love in the oil fields working with Circle A. Sam created a career in the oil fields where he was a tool pusher and a consultant. Sam worked in the oil fields for over 50 years where he was known as "Screamin' Sam". His passions were his work in the oil fields, politics, collecting hats, and taking care of his family. Sam was known for being a very hard worker and a helping hand. Sam was also a very proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Sam and Irene spent many hours working with the disabled as his son Travis suffered from cerebral palsy. He loved his family very much and would do whatever it took for them to be happy. Sam is survived by his brother Paul; daughter Debbie (Mike) Dawson of Olathe, Kansas; daughter in-law Cindy Snell of Rozet, Wyoming; grandchildren Sam and Trevor Snell of Rozet, and Tanner, Eric, and Connor Dawson of Olathe, Kansas; and two great-grandchildren Journey and Davin Snell. He is preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; Brothers Gene, Kenny; sister Juanita; his wife Irene; and son Ivan. A memorial has been established in his name to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and Sharon's Home Healthcare.
