Funeral Services for Thomas Volk will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 20 at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. John Schroeder of Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church officiating.Thomas "Tom" Jack Volk, 73, of Gillette passed away in his sleep Wednesday, April 15, 2015, after a short battle with cancer. We rejoice in the knowledge that our husband, father and grandfather is at peace and enjoying eternity with his Savior. We look forward to joining you in Heaven - in the twinkle of an eye.Tom was born July 1, 1941, to Anthony and Elsie (Fauth) Volk in Mobridge, SD. He graduated from Mobridge High School in 1960. He was an outstanding athlete in High School; lettering in track, football and wrestling. He married the love of his life, Margie Rische in 1961. They were blessed with four children and nine grandchildren whom he loved dearly.He lived in several places including Milpitas, CA and Rapid City, SD before settling in Gillette. Tom was a very skilled man and enjoyed a variety of occupations throughout his life, including working as a truck driver, electrician, and coal miner; retiring from Rio Tinto in 2000. Most recently he did ceramic tile installation. There was little he couldn't fix or construct. Wherever he worked, he made friends and was known to be a fun loving prankster.Tom had a passion for fishing, hunting, and travel. He loved going for drives and seeing the country. He was especially fond of Alaska and Arizona, but always enjoyed coming back to the mountains and rolling hills of Wyoming. He loved making people laugh and most of all, spending time with his family and friends. He was a devoted member of Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church where he enjoyed sharing Crme Savers candies with the children.Tom will be dearly missed by his wife, Margie and children: Todd (Alisa) Volk, Tonja (Bob) Cale, Timothy (Crystal) Volk and Trista (Mark) Ricci and his grandchildren; Mitchell Volk, Allison (David) Hood, Cameron Cale, Carson Cale, Kelsey Volk, Megan Volk, Miranda Ricci, Jillian Ricci and Noah Ricci. Tom is also survived by a brother, Bob Volk and sisters, Martina Matios, LaVonne Kellogg and Mary Karr. He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Melvin and Elfrieda (Becker Sprain) Rische and a brother, Don Volk.In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to benefit Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
