John 'Jack' Vernie Zimmerschied

Funeral services for John "Jack" V. Zimmerschied will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday March 30, 2015 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Deacon Kim Carroll officiating in Moorcroft, WY. Burial will follow at the Moorcroft Cemetery.Jack Zimmerschied, age 72, of Moorcroft, WY a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend passed away at Close to Home Hospice in Gillette, WY on March 24, 2015 after battling cancer.Jack was born to Wilbur and Edna (Taylor) Zimmerschied on July 25, 1942 in Sundance, WY. He attended grade school near Carlile on Cabin Creek and graduated from high school in Moorcroft in 1960 where he was an all-state football player.He married Susan Slattery on April 8, 1961 in Gillette, WY. The couple lived in Moorcroft where Jack earned an electrical lineman's degree from Casper College and worked for Tri-County Electric for 13 years. He later worked as a mechanic/operator for Fuller Construction and Rocky Mountain Water Service. In 1978 the couple moved to their current ranch south of Moorcroft on Shipwheel Road where Jack worked for Parsons Construction and Anderson Trucking before semi-retiring operating his own dump truck. Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and 4-wheeling in the mountains. After retiring he filled his days working on mechanical/construction projects in his shop at the ranch. He enjoyed stoking the coal furnace in his shop and having family and friends stop by needing his "Jack-of-all-Trades" help with a particular project and afterwards sitting in front of the fire just to visit and have a cold one. At the end of the day he could always count on Sue to fix a good home cooked meal and his friends were always welcome to stay and eat being reassured that Mom never cooked for just two. His family and friends will deeply miss his huge smile, sense of humor accompanied by a contagious laugh, overflowing kindness and love of life.He is survived by his wife Sue of 53 years; 3 sons, Kevin of Denver, CO, Kelly (Alyson) and John both of Moorcroft, WY; 2 daughters, Joan (Dave) Fleming of Craig, CO, and Melania (Rob) Hallonquist of Plantersville, TX; One brother James "Jim" of Gillette, WY; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.He is preceded in death by his parents, son Kerry, and granddaughter Sarah Fleming.In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Jack's name for the Heptner Cancer Center.
