Memorial service for Alvin L. Rhodes will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Walker Funeral Home in Gillette, Wyoming with Pastor Burry Bessee of the First United Church of Gillette officiating. Full Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post 42 Drill Team.Alvin, 82 passed away on Monday, February 2, 2015 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital of natural causes.Alvin Lee Rhodes was born on November 23, 1932 the son of James E. and Ruby A. (Wildoner) Rhodes in Madison, Kansas. From the age of two he was raised by his uncle, George H. Rhodes and his grandmother. He attended the Madison Elementary and graduated from the Madison High School and then Alvin enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served from 1949 to 1953 during the Korean War, earning the good conduct and Nation Defense Medals. Alvin was honorable discharged in 1961. He married Betty L. Stevens on December 29, 1963 at the West Side Christian Church in Wichita, Kansas.They had celebrated their 52nd anniversary last year. From the day that they were married to the last day he carried a picture of his bride in his wallet. The couple moved to Gillette in 1975 were they owned and operated a painting and cleaning service.Alvin was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Gillette for over thirty years. Alvin was an avid reader because the family did not have a television in their home. He also would spend his time listening to music. after his retirement Alvin enjoyed kicking back in his easy chair reading the good old westerns and listening to country songs on the radio. Alvin enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He especially like the holiday dinners with his family. He also enjoyed sharing stories in such a way that you felt like you were there. Alvin and Betty were not blessed with children of their own, but they were not without children, children loved to be around Alvin. Alvin would spend time with his cousins children and their children's children. Most of all he spent his time with the love of his life Betty. Alvin knew from the moment he met her she was the one.Alvin is survived by his wife, Betty Rhodes of Gillette, Wyoming, and his sister Mary Jane(Jim) Balwin.He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, his brothers Howard and Harold.A memorial has been established in Alvin's name and can be sent in care of the Walker Funeral Home 410 Medical Arts Ct.
