Funeral Services for Joe Vigil will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Family Life Church in Gillette, Wyoming, with Reverend Bill Morel officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Pisgah Cemetery, Gillette, Wyoming. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 2, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Gillette Memorial Chapel. Joe Filimon Vigil, age 87, passed away of natural causes on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital. Joe Vigil was born January 27, 1927 in Springer, New Mexico to Carmelita (Bonomelli) and Santiago James Vigil. Joe grew up in Springer, New Mexico. He served in the Army during World War II from 1944-1945 then received an honorable discharge. He moved to Gillette in 1946 where he met and married Darlene (Stickney) in June of 1952. Together the couple raised 4 children. Joe worked with his father and brothers as sheep herders here in Campbell County for many years. After his father and brother moved to Colorado, Joe started working for Slim Jacoby Plumbing. Later he built wooden derricks for oilfield rigs. He also worked for the City of Gillette for 20 years as head of the water department. He then worked for Chevron as a pumper for 7 years. Joe loved hunting in both the Big Horn Mountains and the Black Hills. He enjoyed fishing at any waterhole in Wyoming. At his home the TV was always on to a classic western movie. Joe was also fond of traveling and sightseeing in his spare time. Joe was very proud of and loved each and every one of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joe is survived by his sons; David (Mary) Vigil, Sr., James (Elise) Vigil, daughters; Mary Toland; Cynthia (Jay) Loveday, half-brothers; James Bonomelli and Charles Bonomelli, both of Pueblo, Colorado, along with 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Joe is preceded in death by his wife, Darlene in 2007, his parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister. The family would like to thank and recognize his granddaughter Jennifer who was his care-taker and best friend for the last seven years before his death.
