A celebration of life memorial service for Martha Louise Smoot will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Prairie View Baptist Church in Moorcroft, Wyoming, with Pastor Dan Rotach officiating. Visitation will be held, Monday December 29, 2014 from 4:00-7:00p.m. at Gillette Memorial Chapel. Martha Smoot went to be with her Lord and Savior, Wednesday, December 24, 2014 with her husband of 63 years, Robert Smoot at her side. Martha was born in Waterloo, Iowa on June, 27, 1928 to Stewart Ellery and Verna Jessie Ensign. Martha was raised the majority of her life in Moorcroft, WY with her parents and brother Stewart Ellery Ensign, Jr. (Sonny) and Alice Marie (Rogers) Ensign. She attended Moorcroft Elementary School, and graduated from Moorcroft High School, in 1946. After high school, she traveled to Greenville, SC, where she attended Bob Jones University from 1946 1948. She then returned to Wyoming, and became a student at Black Hills Teachers College, in Spearfish, SD. She graduated from Black Hills Teachers College in 1951, with her teaching degree. Martha met her sweetheart, Robert Smoot(Bobby Joe) in 1949. They were married on June 10, 1951. She then accompanied Robert (Bob) back to Greenville, SC, to Bob Jones University, where Bob completed his B.S. degree in education in 1955. Martha taught 1st grade at West Gantt, SC, while Bob completed his degree. The couple moved back to Moorcroft, and felt the Lord leading them into missionary work. They did missionary work around Crook County, WY until the fall of 1956. Then they moved to Lead SD, where Bob became the pastor of Berean Baptist Church. Martha played the piano for the church, and taught bible lessons to the youth. Bob and Martha had 5 children; Roberta L. (Smoot) Dunlavy, Mary Ann (Smoot) Humphrey, Judy Lynn (Smoot) Rotach, Paul Stewart Smoot and Rebecca Susan (Smoot) Souza. They raised their family in Moorcroft, WY, where Bob pastored the First Baptist Church, and Martha worked tirelessly alongside him, supporting their ministry in many areas. God blessed Martha with many talents and she used her talents to serve the Lord by supporting her husband's ministry. Martha was dedicated in playing the piano/organ, singing, organizing musical performances for Easter Sundays and Christmas programs, teaching Sunday school classes, Vacation Bible School, Good News Clubs, as well as supporting the community of Moorcroft and surrounding areas by singing and playing the piano for weddings and funerals. She was an active member of the Moorcroft Lions Club and Crook County Historical Society. Martha had a very beautiful voice and enjoyed playing and singing. She also enjoyed reading her bible, sewing, gardening, shopping and raising miniature schnauzers. She spent time while her children were young as a 4-H sewing leader in the Moorcroft community. Martha also continued her parents businesses, by managing the Wyoming Motel and the Wyoming RV Park in Moorcroft. Martha is survived by her husband, Robert (Bobby Joe) Smoot her sister, Alice Rogers (Ensign), her children; Roberta (Danny) Dunlavy, Mary Ann (Paul) Humphrey, Judy Lynn (Dan) Rotach, Paul Smoot, Rebecca (Mike) Souza, along with her grandchildren; Carise (Dan) Beard, Caleb (Megan) Rotach, Tyson (Kayla) Humphrey, Jenna Humphrey, Haley Humphrey, Tappy (Aaron) Gish-Dunlavy, Toby Anna Dunlavy, Bailey Don Churchill Dunlavy, Lydia Smoot, Hannah Smoot, Abigail Smoot and Lacey Mae Souza. She also is survived by 2 great-grandchildren, Cash Michael Beard and John Curtis Humphrey. She is preceded in death by her parents, Stewart and Verna Ensign and her brother, Stewart Ensign, Jr. (Sonny).
