Duane Earl Newton, better known to his family and friends as "NEWT" went to be with our Lord and Savior on December 17th after battling COPD for over 20 years. Duane was born to LeNotice (Lee) and Esther (Mitchell) Newton, March 29, 1933 as a twin with his sister Doris in Iowa. When Duane was 2 years old his parents moved to Campbell County. Growing up Duane helped his dad with the livestock and delivering of milk for Newton Dairy. At the age of 18, Duane was drafted into the Army. He served for 2 years with full honorable discharge. On July 9, 1954, while stationed in Colorado Springs, CO Duane married the love of his life Lois Marlene Groves. They moved back to Gillette after he was discharged. They had six children, Raymond, Ronald, Cherolyn, Christine, and twins Ott & Ollie. Duane went into business with his brother-in-law John Crump, starting East End Skelly. They then started Big Horn Tire and Brake. The oil boomed and their business grew. Duane and Marlene sold their shares of Big Horn Tire and Brake due to Duane's health. At this time Duane started going to Arizona during the winter months as he felt better there. When Marlene retired they bought the property in Beaver Dam, AZ and they became real snowbirds. This July, Duane and Marlene celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in Gillette, surrounded by family & friends. Duane was the kind of person that knew no stranger and always stood up for the underdog. Duane and Marlene enjoyed traveling they would connect onto their travel trailer and go, many times inviting friends and family along. While his health was good Duane loved to go hunting, fishing, rock hunting, riding the 4-wheelers, and of course playing cards. Duane loved his family with all of his heart and his face would light up when the grandchildren and great grandchildren were visiting. Duane is survived by his loving wife Lois "Marlene", sons Ray (Tina) Newton, Ron (Minnie) Newton, daughters Cheri (Glen) Krieter and Chris (Kerry Streifel) Newton, his twin sister Doris (John) Crump, nephews Martin (Carrie) Crump, John (Kristy) Crump, and niece Cathy (Tom) Stalcup.
