Twyla Jean Burks

Funeral Service for Twyla J. Burks will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 12, 2014 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church with Deacon Kim Carroll officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday December 11, 2014 at Walker Funeral Home. Twyla J. Burks, age 51, of Gillette, WY passed away at Campbell County Memorial Hospital on December 8, 2014. Twyla J. Burks was born December 19, 1962 in Sioux Falls, SD to Dolores Kapanke and John Nothdurft. She grew up in Vernal, UT, but moved to Moorcroft in 1979 where she went on to graduate from Moorcroft High School. Twyla attended Sheridan College and graduated with her Associates in Dental Assisting in 1982. She moved to Gillette shortly after and began working at The Dental office of Dr. Bennet and Dr. Dingman and later at Dental Care Center. On June 23, 1984 she married Willis L. Burks Jr. at Frist Presbyterian Church in Gillette. They had one child Jeremy from this union. Twyla was a proud member of Relay for Life Team: Rita's Rebels and also served as a committee chair for Campbell County Relay for Life. She was a strong woman and a fighter, having beat cancer four times. She enjoyed scrapbooking, raising money for Relay for Life, spending time with her granddaughter Jordyn, antiquing and loved collecting birdhouses.Twyla is survived by her husband, Willis L. Burks Jr. of Gillette, WY; son, Jeremy (Jaclyn) Burks of Gillette, WY; brother, Bruce Nothdurft and wife of South Dakota; stepsisters, Patty (Mark) Harwood of Pinehaven, WY, Rosie (Ron) Rye of Gillette, WY and one granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her mother, Dolores Kapanke, father, John Nothdurft and brother, Darwin Kapanke. Memorials have been established to benefit Rita's Rebels Relay for Life Team or "There's no place like home" cat shelter.
