Nene Rose McCabe

Nene McCabe, age 65, of Gillette, Wyoming died Sunday, December 7, 2014 at the Close to Home Hospitality House following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Her family was by her side as she made her way to heaven. Nene was born on April 5, 1949 in Hereford, Texas to Lawrence Walter and Rita Ellen (Lawyer) Loerwald. She was raised in Dove Creek, Colorado by her father after her mother died at Nene's age of 7 years old. She married Pat Rick McCabe on September 5, 1966 at Cortez, Colorado where they made their home until 1968 when they moved to Gillette, Wyoming. Nene was a stay at home mother until 1992 to raise her four children, Rick, Nicki, Stacy, and Steve. She enjoyed attending her children's sporting events and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She and Pat enjoyed traveling to various parts of the United States, particularly enjoying Las Vegas, Reno, and Mesquite. She held various hats in her working life from bartender to furniture sales person and never met a stranger. She forged deep relationships with an overwhelming number of people and she touched hundreds of lives. Nene was an amazing story teller and conveyed many of her life's adventures. She enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, and horseshoes. Nene was a very civic minded individual and assisted with Little League Baseball, President of Babe Ruth Baseball, President of Senior Babe Ruth, Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, Fourth of July Parade Committee, Gymnastics' Coach, Special Olympics' Volunteer, Organizer of the Veteran's Day Parade, SP Darts Committee, Women's State Bowling Board, Campbell County Bowling Board, Moose Lodge Horseshoe Pits, Fireside Horseshoe Club, Wyoming State Horseshoe Association, World Horseshoe Titled Pitcher in 1996, with many, many state championships in most sports she participated in. Nene was a charter member of the Gillette Elk's Club, Former Eagle's Auxiliary Member, and a Charter Member of the Women of The Moose - Auxiliary of the Loyal Order of the Moose. She earned the Calling Cards for the College of Regents and Star Recorder from the Women of The Moose. Nene had an incredibly strong will to live and that kept her going strong for the last four and a half years. Her doctors and oncology nurses were always entertained and knew of her will to live and that she was a fighter. She went through so much but never lost her faith, her strength, her wisdom, or her smile. She was a wonderful wife; mother, grandmother, and friend and she will be deeply missed. She is survived by her husband, Pat; Brother, Chuck J. (Justin) Loerwald, Aurora, CO; John (Kathy) Loerwald, Westminster, CO; her sons Rick (Colleen) McCabe, Gillette, Wyoming; Steve (Desire) McCabe, Casper, Wyoming; daughters Nicki (Paul) Bain, Midwest, Wyoming; Stacy McCabe, Gillette, Wyoming; Grandchildren, Eric (Jessica) Bain, Billings, MT; Kaitlyn Bain, Casper, WY; Tyler McCabe, Gillette, WY; Taylor McCabe, Casper, WY; Alyssa Leigh McCabe Bryan, Cortez, CO; Kaitlynne Johansen and Peyton James McCabe, Casper, WY; step-mother, Helena Leorwald; step-sister Debbie Briddle and numerous nephews and nieces. She proceeded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Rita Lorewald, sisters, Cecelia (Dolly) Loerwald Williams, Helen F. Loerwald Fuchs, and Grandson, Shawn Paul Bain and one step- sister Kathy Thornton. A memorial has been established to benefit Moose Lodge SP Darts.
