Memorial service for Dixie K. Berland will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Walker Funeral Home with Chris McFadden officiating. Dixie Kay Berland, age 75, of Gillette Wyoming passed away on Saturday November 8th, 2014 at Close to Home Hospice House after a long battle with cancer. Dixie Kay Rhoades was born on October 15th, 1939 in Valentine, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Warren and Josephine Rhoades. At a very young age Dixie started waiting tables for a living. In 1958 Dixie married Jerry Lower and together they had five children. In 1973 they moved to Douglas, Wyoming where she continued to waitress. Jerry and Dixie divorced later that year. Dixie married Tom Zentz and they moved to Gillette, Wyoming in 1974 where she worked as a bookkeeper for Miles Texaco. She also worked at Powder River Laundry, Kwik Shops and a few other jobs around Gillette. Tom and Dixie later Divorced and many years later she married Jack Berland. Dixie loved watching Nascar and one of her greatest memories was when Douglas, Justin, Linda and herself went to Las Vegas in 2011 and watched Jeff Gordon race from the second row. She loved spending time with her family and building puzzles, seeing her grandchildren grow up and then seeing her great grandchildren being born. Dixie is survived by her four children, Wanda Bare of Omaha, Nebraska, Jerald Lower, Deborah (Kenneth) Bellack and Linda (Daniel) Moyer all of Gillette; brother, Norman (Karen) Rhoades of Mesa, Arizona; sisters Nancy (Tim) Hale, Della Gibson of Valentine, Nebraska; grandchildren, Melissa (Travis) Hillsman, Douglas (Candence) Hillius, Justin (Hannah) Hillius, Krystal Nelson, Kayla Nelson, Jeffery (Mandie) Bare, Trevor Bare, Amber (Tom) Palmer, Nick Lower, Chris McGee, Dustin Lower, Dallas Lower, Kyle (Talli) Wagner, Bryan Salisbary, and several great grandchildren. Dixie is preceded in death by her son John Lower, parents, Warren and Josephine Rhoades; brother Larry Rhoades; sister Maxine Serby and son in law Tim Bare. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Close to Home Hospice.
