Memorial services for Barbara Hix, age 60 of Gillette, Wyoming will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m., at New Life Wesleyan Church, Pastor Randall Weinzierl officiating. Barbara Rae Hix, of Gillette, WY, passed away peacefully on August 8th, 2014 at the Close to Home Hospice House after an arduous and courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was 60 years young. Barb was born in Sydney, NE on May 16, 1954 to John and Geraldine Lang of Pine Bluffs, WY. She was the fourth of eleven children. She attended Pine Bluffs Elementary School, Pine Bluffs Junior High, and Pine Bluffs High School. Barb was involved in many activities in high school. She was a member of the cheerleading squad, and she was the Homecoming Queen her senior year. In 1972, Barb graduated from high school and was married to Donald Smith. Three children were born of the union: Travis, Karla, and Paula. The family lived in Pine Bluffs until 1986 when Barb and her three children relocated to Gillette, WY Upon arriving in Gillette, Barb worked at a local grocery store and met Donnie Hix later that year through a mutual friend on a blind date. Barb and Donnie began a devoted relationship and were virtually inseparable. In 1987, Barb began her career at Stockman's Bank, later to become First Interstate Bank, as a bookkeeper. Barb held different positons in several areas of the bank. She was a diligent worker and she personally sacrificed much in order to provide for her children. Barb and Donnie were married June 16th, 1990. Barb was dedicated to her work with an impressive 27 year career at the bank. Barb truly loved and enjoyed her co-workers. The friendships made at the bank were very dear to her and a source of comfort in her final days. Barb had an amazing sense of humor and was just as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She loved to just have fun and would often be goofy and dance around just to get her daughters to laugh. She was a source of energy to her family. Her hobbies included her passion for crochet and cross-stitch. Her most magnificent cross-stitch was a portrait of the Lord's Supper that took over four years for her to complete. Barb also enjoyed spending her time reading Scripture, watching old television programs like The Andy Griffith Show, and was an avid QVC home shopper. Barb and Donnie were regulars at Cool Deadwood Nights. Barb's children and grandchildren were the light of her life. She unconditionally loved sharing cares and cries with each and every one of them. Son, Travis and his wife, Brandie, live in Cheyenne and have one daughter together, Megan. Daughter, Karla and her husband, Chris, live in Cheyenne and have three children: Emma, Lucas, and Lauren. Daughter, Paula and her husband, Jeremy, live in Sneads Ferry, NC and have three children: Carter, Cooper, and Camryn. Barbara was an aunt to ten nieces and eleven nephews one of the significant blessings of being part of a large, loving family. Barb was a fighter always had been and as a believer, she knew that God was carrying her through each of her precious days and all of her fiercest battles. God was her rock He provided her peace through all of her days on this earth. Barb is survived in death by her mother, Geraldine Lang of Pine Bluffs, WY; her husband, Donnie Hix of Gillette, WY; her three children: Travis (Brandie) Smith of Cheyenne, WY; Karla (Chris) Heny of Cheyenne, WY; Paula (Jeremy) Adams of Sneads Ferry, NC; her ten siblings: Christine (Frank) Stevens of Gillette, WY; Roger Lang of Hot Springs, SD; Kathleen (Phil) Watt of Sheridan, WY; Michael (Beth) Lang of Tempe, AZ; Janet (John) Berry of Big Horn, WY; Kenneth (Sandy) Lang of Gillette, WY; Timothy (Nancy) Lang of Pine Bluffs, WY; Randy (Teresa) Lang of Sundance, WY; John Lang of Gillette, WY; Mary Kay (Dave) Martin of Canberra, Australia; and her seven grandchildren. Barb is preceded in death by her father, John B. Lang of Tensleep, WY. Donations may be made to The Close to Home Hospice House in Gillette, Wyoming in Barbara's honor.
