Memorial Service for Doris Jean Wood will be held at 2:00p.m., June 27, 2014 at Gillette Memorial Chapel with Ronald Lenard officiating. Doris Wood, age 90, of Gillette, WY, passed away June 21, 2014 at Pioneer Manor.Doris Jean Wood was born August 16, 1923 to George W. and Anna Sophia (Nachbor) Arnold in Udall, Kansas. She attended school until the 8th grade and married Billy V. Wood on September 26, 1945. Doris worked for Boeing Aircraft Company where she worked on the B29 as one of the ladies known as "Rosie the Riveter" during WWII in Wichita, Kansas. She also worked for Swallow Aircraft. Doris moved to Gillette with her family in February 1968 and it became her permanent home. She enjoyed working at the Sands Restaurant for many years, but most importantly she was a mother and a wife. She had a passion for fishing, camping, playing pinochle, baking and crocheting. Doris loved her trips to Deadwood and Las Vegas. She had a great appreciation for music and dancing. Doris was an avid bowler and was a joy to have on her league. Most who know Doris know how much she looked forward to her Bingo games at Pioneer Manor. She truly loved them and looked forward to the next one. Doris is survived by her sons Lloyd (Glenita) Wood of Gillette, WY; Gerald "Jerry" (Vicki) Wood of Gillette/ Ten sleep, WY; Daughters Cheryl (Wendell) Stocker of Fruita, CO, Linda (Ronald) Lenard of Grand Junction, CO; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.She is preceded in death by her husband Billy V. Wood; grandsons Clinton and Clayton Lenard, Scott Wood; 4 brothers and 4 sisters. A memorial has been established to benefit Close to Home Hospice.
