Raymond Schwindt

Funeral Service for Raymond Schwindt will be at 2:00p.m. Wednesday April 23, 2014 at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD with full military honors. Visitation will be from 5:00p.m. -7:00p.m. Tuesday April 22, 2014 at Walker Funeral Home in Gillette, WY. Raymond Schwindt, age 77, of Gillette, WY passed away April 17, 2014 from injuries received in a one vehicle accident in Johnson County, WY. Raymond Richard Schwindt was born on June 12, 1936 in Belfield, North Dakota to Ramus Schwindt and Victoria Zeller. He grew up in Dickinson, ND and attended school at St. Joseph Catholic School to the eighth grade. In 1954 he joined the Army and was honorably discharged in 1956 where he attained the rank of SP3 (T) and received the National Defense Service Medal. Ray married Rahna M. Morgan on January 11, 1957 in Silver Bow County, Montana. Two children were born to this union Dennis on March 4, 1961 in Anaconda, MT and Deborah on July 18, 1962 in Belle Fourche, SD. After the Army Ray began working at the Anaconda Company in a Smelter in Butte, MT he also worked in road construction in Montana, Colorado and Wyoming. Ray was second Lt Fireman in Fort Collins Colorado. Later he went on to work at Amax Coal where he retired from in 1994. Ray was a proud member of NRA and enjoyed firearms. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, anything outdoors, history and ranching. Ray is survived by his son Dennis Dwayne(Dawn) Schwindt of Gillette, Wy; brother Ron (Jenny) Zeller of Dickinson, ND; sister Linda Phomas of Washington; Elaine Uhlenkott and Delores Schwindt both of Spokane, WA; one grandchild Reagan (Joe) LePage, 3 great grandchildren Lukas, Logan and Landry; one niece and two nephews. Ray is preceded in death by his daughter Deborah Schwindt; his wife Rahna Schwindt; his parents Ramus and Victoria Schwindt. A memorial has been established to benefit Home on the Range.
