Evera Brenner

June 24, 1946 — February 24, 2014

After a long battle with breast cancer, Evera passed away on Monday, February 24th, 2014 at the Close to Home Hospice, Gillette, Wyoming. Services will be held on February 26, 2014 at the Walker Funeral Home in Gillette. Evera Gerry Branderhorst Brenner was born June 24, 1946 at her home in Honselersdijk, Holland to parents, John Gerrit Branderhorst and Trudy Van Der Berg-Branderhorst. She was the 3rd of 13 children. At age 14, Evera and her family, now consisting of 12 children, boarded a boat from their homeland of Holland and moved to America. They arrived at Ellis Island, New York after which they traveled by train to their new home in Portland, Oregon. Evera graduated from high school and then Good Samaritan School of Nursing with an RN degree in 1969. She married John R. Brenner on March 1, 1969 in Portland. The couple was blessed with two sons, Glen M and Steven J. Brenner. Evera worked as a Registered Nurse for 30 years at Central Oregon District Hospital in Redmond, Oregon. In July of 2006 the couple moved to Rozet, Wyoming, joining their sons' families there. Evera loved her Lord Jesus and cherished spending time with her four grandchildren. She was ALWAYS up for an adventure. John and Evera recently returned from trips to both the East and West Coasts where they visited family and friends along the way. She had also traveled back to Holland on several occasions to visit family. Evera's morning ritual included walking a few miles every day, smiling and waving to neighbors as she passed. As a skilled photographer, she carried her camera everywhere, capturing images of her family, friends, and nature. She especially enjoyed taking pictures of flowers and her precious grandchildren. Evera's cheerful outlook on life and her spirit of adventure have been passed on to her sons and grandchildren. Evera also shared with others in many ways. One of her final wishes, as an organ donor, was that the gift of her corneas would allow two more people to see their worlds in the same beautiful way that she did. Her entire family will miss her, but is thankful for every day they were able to spend with Grandma. She is survived by her husband, John, sons Glen (Sheri) and Steven (Jennifer); grandson, Matthew John; granddaughters, AnnaBelle Roxann, Katie Rose and Kallie Raquel Brenner, all of Rozet, Wyoming. She is also survived by her brothers: Herman, Garret, Frank, Everett (Kip), Peter, Casey and Johann; and sisters, Gerri, Hilda, Trudy, Sonja and Minora; their spouses and families; brother-in-law, Larry Brenner and sister-in-law Nancy Day, their spouses and families. Evera was preceded in death by her parents, Opa and Oma Branderhorst. A memorial has been established in Evera's name to benefit Close to Home Hospice, Gillette, Wyoming.
