Mass of Christian Burial for Harlan Schlueter will be held at 2:00p.m Thursday, January 9, 2014 at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Gillette, Wyoming, with burial to follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 from 4:00p.m. - 6:00p.m. with a Vigil starting at 6:00p.m. at Gillette Memorial Chapel. Harlan Schleueter, age 69, passed away due to cancer, on January 3, 2014 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital. Harlan was born in Elkader, Iowa, on February 18, 1944, to his mother Berdina (Weidemann) Schlueter and his father Arthur L. Schlueter. He was one of six children; Ronnie Schlueter, Elaine (Schlueter) Biermann, Karen(Schlueter) Bischoff (deceased), Dennis Schlueter, Diana(Schlueter) Werger. On September 27, 1996 Harlan married Mary Lee Welsh at the Scenic Ridgeview Ranch in Iowa in the presence of his 5 children and Mary Lee's 4 children, on that day the family was united as one. Harlan attended Saint Patrick Catholic School (MFL High School) in Monona, Iowa as well as completed a collegiate Farrier course in 1968 at the University of Wisconsin. Harlan worked at Hy-Grade Meat Processing and later at the Monona Co-op, he took his farrier work from Iowa out to Wyoming where he was also employed at Claude's Welding and later at Kissack Water and Oil both in Gillette, Wyoming. Harlan centered his life around his faith, his family, and his friends. In his youth, Harlan enjoyed playing football in high school and loved old muscle cars; through the years he enjoyed being in the mountains, horseback riding, camping, hunting, rodeo, as well as a deep love for driving a team of horses. Harland was raised in Monona, Iowa where he raised his 5 children when he married Mary Lee Welsh. Harlan and Mary Lee then moved to Wyoming in 2000 where they continued the journey of their life together. Harlan is survived by his wife and very best friend Mary Lee Schlueter, 4 siblings- Ronnie Schlueter, Elaine(Schlueter) Biermann, Dennis Schlueter, and Diana(Schlueter) Werger, his 9 children- Thad Schlueter and Paulette Heying, Coleen(Schlueter) Martin married to Dan Martin, Cody Schlueter and Becky Voshell, Will Schlueter and Samatha Hansel, Kelsey Schlueter and Joel Scherf, Robert Welsh Jr. married to Peggy Welsh, Jeannie Haines married to Ramie Haines, Jackie Morgan married to Darin Morgan, Bill Welsh, 17 grandchildren- Kaitlen Heying, Adam Martin, Drew Martin, Bailey Martin, BillieJo Schlueter, Wesley Schlueter, Kaylei Scherf, Bobby Welsh, Brian Welsh, Wyatt Welsh, Amanda Welsh-Harris, Lane Welsh, Bridgette Haines-Harris, Nichole Haines-Puettman, Bo Morgan, Ali Morgan, Jay Morgan, 8 Great Grandchildren- Brooklyn Martin, Peyton Martin, Madison Wolff, Colt Welsh, Hayden Welsh, Aftyn Welsh, Raymie Jean Harris, Arian Puettman, and many surviving nieces, nephews, and other family members. Thank you to Dr. Mills, Dr. Hastrecter, Dr. Fort, Dr. Meade, Dr. Barabas, nurses, and staff at Campbell County Memorial Hospital as well as Dr. Gajdos and Dr. Weeks at Anschutts Medical Campus University Hospital in Denver, Colorado.
