Glenda Jean Martin, age 71, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital from a short illness. Glenda was born September 15, 1942 to Cecil S. Manous and Dorthy J. (Beaman) Manous in the Hoadley Hospital in Gillette, Wyoming. She was the second of six children born to this union. As a child she lived where the CB&Q Rail Road needed her father to work predominantly in Oriva, Wyoming. Glenda attended rural Campbell County schools. As a child she was active in 4-H, raising lambs and claves. She had a strong attachment to the animals she raised; and cried when she had to give them up. She would clear her mind and let off her great energy by chopping wood for hours for her family. She loved going into town to dance and chase boys. She fell in love with John L. Hawkes, she and John moved to Idaho to start a new family. Out of this union three boys were born; John Jr., Russell, and Steve. Her children were the light of her life. In 1968, she returned to Gillette to be close to family. She worked hard to support her boys in various jobs at the time. She met Arlin Martin and the couple married. She enjoyed the comfort and stability and loved the new home they built. She loved her employment at NZ shoes. She was a confident sales woman with a fashionable flair. Life changed and Glenda was later divorced and on her own with her boys. During the oilfield boom in Gillette she tried her hand at bartending and excelled. She loved the people, conversation and the atmosphere. She gained numerous friends and touched many lives. After a brief relationship with Wayne Sprayberry she welcomed her last son, Douglas. Later in life she married Arvid Lunde who assumed the role of fatherhood with her son Doug. Glenda credited him for the love of Walleye fishing and enjoyed the hunting trips they took during their marriage. They later divorced. Glenda was a 25 year member of the Eagles club and also a member of the Moose Lodge in Gillette. Glenda was a ladies league bowler for many years. Glenda loved to dance. Gardening flowers were a passion, spending hours in a green houses with friends. She planted where ever she found a bare spot that needed beauty. Shopping was a regular excursion there wasn't a clearance rack she didn't look at and she always had a certain person in mind for the purchase. Glenda was a very good cook and welcomed many to her table. Holidays were always a special time starting with the decoration and the lighting up the night for a feast on the holiday. She always had a candy stash and made sure the kids around her had plenty. Glenda loved camping, snowmobiling, 4- wheeling, fishing, and elk hunting on horseback. She also loved gambling, demolition derby and racing. She loved life and wouldn't waste a minute of it. She loved to spoil her loved ones and would fight for the right to do so. Glenda was a psychiatrist and a friend behind a bottle. She will be greatly missed. Glenda is survived by her sons Russell Hawkes, Doug (Sara West) Martin of Gillette, Wy; Steve Hawkes of Oxford, WI; four grandchildren: Brandon Runyon, Josh Runyon, Mason Martin, and Phoenix Martin; brother Earl (Shirley) Manous; mother Dorothy Manous; loving nieces and nephews and host of lifelong friends. She is preceded in death by her son John L. Hawkes Jr., her father Cecil S. Manous; two infant brothers; sisters Ruth Shelstad and Fern Brown; and numerous extended family and friends.
