Mildred Celia (Sewell) Hayden, 86, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at Pioneer Manor of natural causes. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 2, 2013 at New Life Wesleyan Church. A private family burial will occur at a later date.She was born Oct. 25, 1926, one of seven children to George W. and Matilda M. (Bock) Sewell on Skull Creek Ranch North of Osage. She was known as Swede or Millie to many. She graduated in 1945 from Newcastle High School and continued her education in Sheridan at beauty training for five months and received her cosmetology license in October 1946. She was a cowgirl at heart and moved back to Newcastle in 1946 to reign as rodeo queen of Weston County. She married Dick R. (Bob) Hayden on Aug. 24, 1947, having four children, Ricky R. Hayden, Rita Jo Hayden, Randy L. Hayden, Rhonda M. Hayden. They made a living building fence for many people and then moved to the Hannum Ranch in the winter of 1949. She spent her time working on the ranch, raising children, horses, cattle and sheep. In 1961, they divorced and she stayed in Gillette working as a beautician for many different operators until opening Mil's Beauty shop in her home. Ms. Hayden was very active in the community, serving as auxiliary officers with the Auxiliary Legion Post 42 and was a Golden Member of the Eagles Auxiliary 2711. She was also a member of the Savageton Homebuilders Club and a leader for 21 Butte 4-H Club. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, playing cards and eating lunch at the Campbell County Senior Center until becoming a resident at Pioneer Manor. She spent a lifetime caring and helping others. She is survived by her sons, Ricky R. Hayden and Randy L. Hayden; one brother, Sammy Sewell of Newcastle; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, five siblings, two daughters and lots of family and friends.
