Mary Lee Chavira

August 15, 1963 — September 15, 2013

Mary Lee Chavira, age 50, of Gillette, Wyoming passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2013 after a short battle with cancer. Mary was born and raised in Manistique, Michigan the daughter of Lavern and Leora Brown. In 1979 she moved to Gillette with her cousin to live with her aunt and uncle. Shortly after, she met Anselmo Chavira and the couple married in 1981. Together they had three children, Jason, Ofelia, and Krimson. When the children were young they often spent time camping and fishing. Mary was known for her excellent cooking and baking skills and enjoyed getting out of the house to play bingo. She was a strong willed independent woman who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She had a contagious sense of humor and took pleasure in making others laugh. Mary faced life with optimism and often said "If there's a will, there's a way." She used this outlook to work through her life struggles without complaints. Although Mary and Anselmo divorced after nearly 25 years of marriage, Anselmo continued to play an active role in Mary's life. Mary is survived by her ex-husband; Anselmo, her children; Jason Chavira, Ofelia (Rob) Myles, Krimson Chavira; her five grandchildren whom she enjoyed spending time with whenever she had the opportunity, Natallee, Ayden, Kylin, Illeanna, and TJ, her parents; Laverne and Leora Brown; five siblings; Pete, Paul, Marsha (Raymond) White, Patty (John) Basse, and Nicole (Ray) Seires, as well as her aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; Clio Brown and Eva Lecuyer and Luella and J. William Krummich and three cousins; Ronnie Brown, Larry Brown and Luella Lemaster. The family would like to thank the nurses and the staff at the Close to Home Hospitality House for their outstanding care and compassion during Mary's stay there.
