Douglas Rodney Turner, 80, of Gillette, Wyoming, passed away on August 5, 2013 from complications of leukemia at the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver, Colorado.A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on August 12, 2013 at the Family Life Church. Gillette Memorial Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements. Cremation has taken place in Colorado. A private burial will follow the memorial services at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Service will be casual attire. Doug was born in Lusk, Wyoming on February 4, 1933. He lived in Lost Springs with his grandmother Turner until age three then he was raised by his father and step-mother, Helen Turner. Doug graduated from Campbell County High School and continued on to receive a Business Degree from Rapid City School of Business. Upon graduation Doug joined the United States Army. Doug married Isabel Haynes on October 29, 1955; they were happily married for 57 years. They moved to California where he worked in a furniture store and trained Arabian horses. Then moved back to Gillette where Doug owned and operated the Stockman's Bar and Caf, as well as, invested into many real estate properties with his best friend, Jim Reeves. After selling the caf and bar, Doug went into the real estate business as an agent then as a broker/co-owner before retiring in 1983. Doug enjoyed boating, pulling water skiers, fishing, hunting, woodworking, stained glass, square dancing, his coffee club friends and spending time with his family. Doug and Isabel loved traveling in their motor home for 37 years with friends, traveling all over the United States and Canada. Doug was a lifetime member of both the Masonic Lodge and Kalif Shrine Temple. He was also a member of the Powder River Shrine Club, Jesters, Elks Lodge and Lions Club. Doug will always be remembered for the twinkle in his eye and incredible sense of humor. His love for family was above reproach. He will be deeply missed by everyone. Doug is survived by his wife, Isabel of Gillette, Wyoming; Two daughters, Debbie (Don) Hufford from Powell, Wyoming; Vee (Don) McKim from Gillette, Wyoming; two sons, Doug (Nancy) Turner from Gillette, Wyoming; Rick Turner from Denver, Colorado; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Doug is preceded in death by his parents Harry Turner and Frances Sturman, step-mother Helen Turner, sister Vee Bjornstad and one grandson Kyle Turner. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Powder River Shrine Club Travel Fund or the Kalif Temple Travel Fund.
