Josephine Ellen Jane Felix

Josephine Ellen Jane Chalfant Felix, age 95, of Gillette, Wyoming, died on Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home of natural causes. At her request no services are planned.Josephine Felix was born July 26, 1917, in a sod house in rural Dawes County, Nebraska, the daughter of Milo Levi and Arley Madge (Carpenter) Chalfant. She was raised in Story, Wyoming, and on ranches in Johnson and Sheridan counties in Wyoming. Josephine graduated from Johnson County High School in Buffalo, Wyoming, in 1935. While attending the University of Wyoming she worked on Eaton's Ranch in Wolf, Wyoming, in the summers. She earned a Normal Teaching Degree in 1938, and taught at Banner, Wyoming. Josephine married Joe D. Felix on September 10, 1938. She later completed a Bachelor of Arts with honors in 1961 and taught at Buffalo Grade School as a first grade teacher from 1957-1979. After retirement they lived in Fort Davis, Texas, from 1979 until 1989, and in Yuma, Arizona, from 1989 until 2007 when she moved to Gillette to be near her daughter. Josephine was a member of Union Congregational Church while in Buffalo, Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Delta Kappa Gamma, Kappa Delta Pi, and the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter J where she served in all offices.Josephine is survived by her daughters: Jan Hopkins of Huntington Beach, California, and Sara Neyer of Gillette, Wyoming, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one brother, Wade Chalfant of Evansville, Indiana, and numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband on May 14, 2003; parents; sister, Thelma Smith, brothers Linton, Earl, Rex, Vincent, Lee, Lenley, and John Chalfant, one niece, two nephews, and one great-nephew.Memorials are suggested to benefit the P.E.O.
