Bernice Schroder

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2013 at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Jared Tucher officiating. A visitation will be held from 8:30a.m. 10:30a.m. also at the church Monday morning just prior to the service. Burial will take place at 3:00p.m. at Custer Cemetery in Custer, SD following the funeral service. Bernice A. Schroder, age 93, has gone to be with the Lord in her heavenly home now; she died surrounded by her family at the Close to Home Hospice House in Gillette, Wyoming on March 19, 2013.Bernice was the second child born to Eugene Arthur "Art" and Doretta Mary "Dora" (Halter) Robbennolt near Delmont, South Dakota on November 24, 1919. She grew up in and around Delmont and after graduating from high school attended college at Southern State Normal School in Springfield, South Dakota to become a teacher. She finished her four years of college at Spearfish, South Dakota and the Ellsworth Airforce Base College and received her BS degree in education. A one room school teacher, Bernice taught seven years in Douglas County, South Dakota, one year at the Coleman School south of Hot Springs, South Dakota, one year at the Junction School north of Custer, South Dakota, twenty-one years at the Four Mile School west of Custer, and retired after teaching four years at the Pringle School in Pringle, South Dakota. Bernice married Gale Schroder on August 19, 1940, and they farmed between Armour and Delmont, South Dakota for seventeen years. It was there that their only son, Frank was born. In 1957, they moved to Hot Springs then to Custer in 1958 where they lived until moving to Newcastle, Wyoming in 1986. Gale died April 30, 1996 and Bernice later moved with her family to Gillette, Wyoming in 2002. Bernice enjoyed sewing, quilting, embroidery, reading books, Wednesday night Bingo with all her friends in her apartment building, her membership and time volunteering at the Campbell County Senior Center, and watching her great-grandchildren participate in various sporting events through the years. Her hobby in later years was embroidering tea towels and pillow cases which she gave to many friends and family and donated to Campbell County's Relay for Life to be sold to raise money to fight cancer. Bernice was very thankful to God for giving her a wonderful family and friends.Bernice is survived by her son, Frank (Lynnda) Schroder, granddaughters: Penny Schroder and Rosey (Seth) Barbour; beloved great-grandchildren: Taylor, Josi, and Lane Barbour all of Gillette, Wyoming; sisters: Georgia (Tom) Graves of Glendale, Arizonia; Bonnie (Don) Novak of Wagner, South Dakota and Clarice Williams of Rapid City, South Dakota; numerous nieces and nephews and special adopted family Mike and Jean Treloar, Kevin Treloar all of Custer, South Dakota, and Heather (Coop) Cooper and boys of Rapid City, South Dakota.She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers: Joe, Cliff, and Bob Robbennolt, sister-in-law, Marie Robbennolt, and brother-in-law Chester Williams.In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Bernice's name to the Close to Home Hospice of Gillette, WY.
