Funeral service for Robert (Bob) V. Litzinger Jr. will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, March 1, 2013 at Gillette Memorial Chapel with Pastor Billy Wilson of New Life Wesleyan Church officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:30 a.m., Friday, March 1, 2013 at Gillette Memorial Chapel.Bob Litzinger, age 86, of Hot Springs, South Dakota died of natural causes on Friday, February 22, 2013 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, South Dakota. Bob was born the son of Robert and Pearl (Daniel) Litzinger in Hot Springs, South Dakota on August 3, 1926. He was raised in the Hot Springs area and worked on the family ranch. Bob also spent time breaking horses and participating in rodeos in his youth. He enlisted in the United States Army on April 3, 1946 and was a member of the 109th Company B Engineer Combat Battalion. Bob spent part of his service in Japan. While there this unit had responsibility for commandeering the horses from the Japanese Emperor's stables. After his military service, he married Vera Rodgers in Carson City, Nevada. They raised two children: James O. Litzinger and Susan L. Jurgensen. During this time he was a self-employed contractor. After their children were grown and married, Bob and Vera spent over 20 years on the highways of the USA working for moving companies and seeing most of the country. They made many friends during those years. Bob always stated that "he never met a stranger" and he meant it. No one crossing his path was ever a stranger. He was friendly to all and loved to chat with everyone. Children were drawn to him and he was crazy about them. Bob is survived by his daughter, Susan (Michael) Jurgensen of Fenton, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Barbara Litzinger of Gillette, Wyoming; granddaughter, Michele Merritt of Gillette, Wyoming; grandsons: Gregory (Koreen) Jurgensen of Victoria, Illinois, James Litzinger Jr. of Gillette, Wyoming, Grant (Traci) Jurgensen of Abilene, Kansas, and Robert (Breanna) Jurgensen of Carney, Oklahoma; his brother, Donald (Rose) Litzinger of Boise, Idaho; 3 great-granddaughters and 4 great-grandsons and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, son, James Litzinger, parents and his youngest brother, Richard (Dick) Litzinger.
