Funeral services for Marlin Roy McKown will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 13, 2012 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 1500 O'hara Drive, Gillette, Wyoming. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.Marlin, age 64 passed away August 9, 2012 from an extended battle with cancer.Marlin Roy McKown was born September 24, 1947 to Roy Horton and Ardith Louise (Moon) McKown in Miller, South Dakota. He was the oldest of five children. He began his elementary education in Bridgewater, SD and graduated from Edgemont High School in 1965, he finished his education after a year in South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD.Having grown up in the newspaper/printing business under his father's leadership, he followed by working in Custer, Sturgis, and Rapid City, SD before buying the Edgemont Herald Tribune from his father in March of 1974. In the same year he met and married his soul mate, JoAnn Beckley on July 18, 1974. To this union they were blessed with two children, Larry and Danielle. The couple recently celebrated thirty eight years of marriage.Marlin and JoAnn sold the Edgemont paper in May 1980 and lived for a short period in Dillon, MT. In March of 1981 they moved to Gillette, WY where he entered into a partnership with Action Printing. In April, 1992 he began traveling to Spearfish to work in a printing facility. In August 1994 he secured employment in the printing department of the Campbell County School District. He transferred to the warehouse in May of 2001 where he worked until his health conditions forced him to retire in May of 2009.He was baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in October 1981 and he and JoAnn were sealed for time and eternity in Salt Lake Temple on January 14, 2001. Marlin had a great love for our Lord Jesus Christ and held many callings in the Church.Marlin most enjoyed time with his family and grandchildren. Some of his most favorite things to do included playing cards with family, working in his yard, racing, hunting and watching sports.Marlin is survived by his wife JoAnn; son, Larry (Stephanie) McKown of Sundance, WY; daughter Danielle(Jason) Stovall of Gillette, WY; four grandchildren Paige McKown of Gillette, WY, Brittney (Luke) Olsen of Sidney, NE; Ethan and Brooklyn Stovall of Gillette, WY; and one great-grandaughter, Shaylee Olsen of Sidney, NE; father, Roy McKown of Hot Springs, SD; brother, Mike McKown of Custer, SD; sisters, Barbara (Randy) Barkley of Riverside, CA; Ellen (Charlie) Heafner of Hot Springs, SD; and Judith (Art) Licht of Gillette, WY as well as numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his mother, Ardith McKown, grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles.
