Dana Ronald Dillon

Dana Ronald Dillon, age 86, of Gillette, Wyoming died on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Primrose Assisted Living. Dana Dillon was born on March 15, 1926 the son of Clarence and Dorothy (Doane) Dillon in Marblehead, Massachusetts. Dana attended several schools on the east coast due to his father being in the United states Marine Corp. As a youngster he had a passion for the Merchant Marines and his dream of going to sea came true. While Dana was in the Merchant Marines he traveled all over the world supporting the war efforts during WWII. At the age of 25 Dana became the youngest Captain with the Merchant Marines. On shore leave Dana met the person who would become the love of his life Joan M. Currie. On February 5, 1955 they were married in New York City. Dana took Joan on a honeymoon around the world on a 6 month voyage. To this union came two children, Donna and Deirdre. In 1968, their family moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. In his free time he loved to go sailing on his sailboat. Dana was an active member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Ponte Vedra Beach. He loved sand between his toes, and the wind in his sails.Dana is survived by his wife Joan Dillon of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; two daughters: Donna (Phil) McMahill of Gillette, Wyoming and Deirdre (Tom) Bates of Kingwood, Texas; sister, Rita Dillon of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; five grandchildren: Clint McMahill of Sacramento, California; Brooke (Ryan) Mack of Gillette, Wyoming, Kelly (Mitch) Heimer of Lafayette, Louisiana, Mason Bates and Logan Bates both of Kingwood, Texas; one great grandchild, Ethan Mack of Gillette, Wyoming.Memorials are suggested to benefit Christ Church in Ponte Vedre Beach, Florida.
