Mass of Christian Burial for Vione Lane will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 4, 2011 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church with Father Cliff Jacobson celebrating. Rite of committal will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Gillette Memorial Chapel with a rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m.Vione (Rourke) Lane, age 95, passed away peacefully, on October 31, 2011 at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home. Vione Lane was born the daughter of Charles and Mary (Wetzel) Rourke in Southerland, Nebraska on July 23, 1916. At only six months old in December 1916 her family moved to the homestead south of Gillette, Wyoming where she and her 3 brothers and 2 sisters were raised. Vione graduated from Campbell County High School and then went to normal training to become a school teacher and taught for 16 years. She worked at several one room country schools, while working in one of those she would be courted and marry the love of her life, Alvis "Nig" Lane, the couple was married on May 23, 1935 in Buffalo, Wyoming. From this union two children were born, James and Nancy. In 1943, they would move north of Gillette and establish Cow Creek Ranch. Vione enjoyed her flowers and plants and couldn't wait until it was time to get the farmer's Almanac out and start to plant her garden. She loved to sew and crochet; making several quilts. Vione was a bailiff for District Court for several years also an election judge and worked as a fair clerk. Vione loved to travel to as many places as possible. She took her last cruise at the age of 90. Vione is survived by her son, James (Donna) Lane of McKinney, Texas; daughter, Nancy Freed of Gillette, Wyoming; four grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren, brother, Paul Rourke of Gillette, Wyoming; sister, Bonnie Wenande of Osage, Wyoming and a brother in law, LD Lane of Sheridan, Wyoming.She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and one sister.Memorials are suggested to benefit St. Joseph's Children's Home in Torrington, Wyoming.
