Visitation for Virginia Stanford will be from 4-6 p.m., Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Walker Funeral Home, Gillette, WY. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2011 at St. John Lutheran Church in Madison, SD with Pastor Daryl Schuman officiating. Burial to follow at Graceland Cemetery in Madison, SD. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. with prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at Randall Funeral Home, Madison, SD. Virginia Stanford, age 80, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011 at her daughter's home in Gillette, WY.Virginia Marcine Laura Stanford was born on December 3, 1930 in Canova, South Dakota the daughter of Leo and Mabel (Young) Schoeberl. Virginia married Joseph Stanford, October 25, 1947 and they had three children, Donald, Scarlet and Carol. The couple later divorced. In 1965 Virginia became the bookstore manager at Dakota State College, where she worked for 25 years. She retired from the college at age 62. In 2009 she moved to Gillette to be near her children. She lived independently at Cottonwood Terrace Apartments. Grandma Ginny had a great imagination. She loved to tell her life stories to her children and grandchildren. She wrote several short stories incorporating her grandchildren's names. She nearly completed a novel on the Civil War and her in-depth research took several yearsVirginia was a leader of "Young at Heart" at St. John Lutheran Church and an active member of Lutheran Women United. She was a 45 year member of St. John Lutheran, where her Christian faith was very strong.Virginia is survived by her son, Donald (Micky) Stanford, daughters, Scarlet (Doug) McKown and Carol Bohl all of Gillette WY; six grandchildren Sandi Nelson, D.J. Standord, Chris Warren, Jeff Warren, Andy Warren, Shaunda Bohl and eight great-grandchildren; brothers, LaVern (Alice) Schoeberl and Lee Wayne (Connie) Schoeberl both of Madison, SD as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, LaVonne Rhoden, brother, Virgil "Cork" Schoeberl, and grandson, Michael Stanford.Memorials to the American Cancer Society may be sent in Virginia's name in care of Walker Funeral Home, 410 Medical Arts Court, Gillette, WY 82716 or Randall Funeral Home, 604 N.
