Funeral services for Edward H. Vanscoy will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at New Life Wesleyan church with Pastor Martin Crump of Family Life Church officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Gillette Memorial Chapel.Fast Eddie Vanscoy, beloved husband, father, brother, left this world to be with our Lord on September 29, 2011 at the age of 75 in Billings, Montana. Ed lived in Gillette Wyoming and was born in Denver, Colorado on December 24, 1935 to Shelby and Virginia Vanscoy. He leaves his wife and soul mate Phyllis, seven children and his brother Harold. Ed attended Smedley Elementary and Westminster High School in Westminster, Colorado and was All-State football and basketball. He graduated from Western State University in 1956, and was inducted into the Western State University Hall of Fame for football in 2003. As a member of Bermuda Dunes Country Club, Ed played in the Bob Hope Classic in Palm Desert California over 25 years, winning the tournament with his team in 1994. An avid golfer, fly fisherman, businessman, entrepreneur, contractor, restaurateur, and philanthropist. Ed loved sports of all kinds and was part owner of the Denver Nuggets in the 70's. Ed started his early career in high school as an entrepreneur establishing his own cleaning business. After a great career in the Insurance Business, he came to Gillette Wyoming in the 70's as a contractor and developed Southerland Estates. He also established many restaurants in Gillette and Denver Colorado including the Prime Rib and most recently the Chop House. He finally retired in 2010, after a long and successful career. Ed never knew a stranger, loved people and had a great sense of humor.Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis Mae Estes Vanscoy of Gillette, Wyoming; seven children: Vicky Carlson of Rancho Santa Fe, California, Karen Payne of Billings, Montana, Bob Vanscoy of Urban Dale, Iowa, Joel Skalinder of Green River, Wyoming, Steve Vanscoy of Windsor, Colorado, Chan Skalinder of Toronto, Canada, and Darin Skalinder of Turlock, California; 13 grandchildren: Shannon Payne of Billings, Montana, Erin Payne of Longmont, Colorado, Tara Payne of Longmont, Colorado, Jessy Vanscoy of West Des Moines, Iowa, Laney Vanscoy of West Des Moines, Iowa, Joshua Skalinder of Rock Springs, Wyoming, Kayla Skalinder of Green River, Wyoming, Jalou Vanscoy of Windsor, Colorado, Stavan Vanscoy of Windsor, Colorado, Rebekah Skalinder of Toronto, Canada, Sarah Skalinder of Toronto, Canada, Grace Skalinder of Turlock, California, and Samuel Skalinder of Turlock, California; brother, Harold Vanscoy of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nieces: Jill VanHorn of Overland Park, Kansas and Amy Vanscoy of Grand Forks, North Dakota.Those wishing to make a donation can do so to either the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
